About The Role
EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high speed rail projects.
We are looking to recruit a Carbon Manager who will be responsible for the management of key design elements and will support the Construction Environmental Lead Manager with carbon and climate change objectives, management and support. You must ensure that the requirements of the Environmental Minimum Requirements and the Environmental Statement are complied with and are delivered.
We expect you to assess carbon effects of the design and mitigation proposals present in the environmental designs to avoid or reduce environmental effects. You will work with Planners and the Engineering team to ensure that the carbon programme is effectively communicated and collaboratively work to ensure that environmental timescales are built into the programme and risk is understood.
You will ensure that the Engineering team and any Supply Chain understand the carbon aspects and impacts and what action is required of them.
A key priority will be to increase environmental awareness within the wider team – specific to carbon and climate change. We also expect you to establish and maintain a programme for reporting, and demonstrating compliance with applicable legislation and industry best practice
You must take responsibility for improvements to and delivery of Environmental and Sustainability Policy and Procedures – carbon and climate change. Assist in the development and implementation of beneficial re-use on site materials. You'll provide practical and innovative solutions for waste management and reuse, including materials, energy and carbon management. We would like you to support supply chain activities to raise environmental and sustainability standards
Organisational carbon accounting will be part of this role – the development of organisational carbon footprints for corporate reporting such as SCER, CDP, Science Based Targets, and experience with scope 3 emission calculations and reporting.
About The Candidate
Key Skills and Qualifications:
You must have a practical understanding of LCA and it's methodology – including familiarity and use of ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
Knowledge and use of carbon foot printing tools and carbon life cycle assessment methodologies.
You must have experience in undertaking assessments of the carbon and energy impact of construction projects.
You must be able to demonstrate that you do not have a vested interest in the outcome of the infrastructure project and should not be professionally connected with any energy company, low or zero carbon technology or manufacturer.
Your knowledge and experience must include application of Type III environmental declarations in the construction context.Ideally you will have a background in Rail or Civil Engineering. Experience in Construction is essential.
