The Big Local Community Project in Conniburrow, (BLC) is looking to recruit a Community Support Officer initially on a 3-month contract basis to support the Community Project development in the local area, by engaging local residents, building a volunteer network, and ensuring efficient use of the Community facilities.
Reporting to the Philanthropy Director and the Capacity Building Manager your duties will include the following:
Community Engagement
1. Liaise with BLC partnership committee in delivering Big Local Plan
2. Implement BLC partnership plans and input into the future projects based on discussion with the local community.
3. Reach out to the Community of Conniburrow to promote the work of the BLC and encourage residents to become more involved in events, volunteering and use of the Hub.
4. Produce appropriate information about BLC activities.
Volunteer Engagement
1. Recruit new volunteers to support BLC projects and events.
2. Train volunteers in the respective roles required by BLC, including running the Community Fridge, maintenance of the Community orchard and running Community events.
3. Keep records of volunteering activity and develop rotas particularly in relation to the opening of the Hub and the Community Fridge.
Community Facilities
1. Management of the Community Hub, taking bookings, supervising users, encouraging new activities.
2. Opening and closing the Hub supervising any maintenance requirements.
3. Running the Community Fridge project including donations, stock control, wastage management and opening hours.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
1. Excellent organisational and team coordination skills
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
3. An understanding of the value of volunteers in delivering the BLC vision.
4. Empathy with volunteers and understanding of their needs.
5. Good knowledge of Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Food Hygiene
This role would be ideal for someone with knowledge of the Voluntary and Community Sector and who has previous experience working in a multidiscipline role.
The working hours are 20 hours per week per person and we are looking to recruit this on a job share basis i.e. 40 hours split between two people. The hourly rate is £12 per hour and we require applicants to be able to work flexible hours in light of the work involved. It is highly preferable that you live locally in Conniburrow as you will need to be available at various times with regards in particular to the opening and closing of the Community Hub
