MM600 – Stress Engineer

Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Stress Engineer for our client who is the world leading manufacturer.
The role
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing stress and structural analyses to ensure the structural integrity and performance of the design is to the required standards.
Responsibilities
The overarching responsibility fundamental to this role is that of understanding the loading on a given structure. This involves a detailed appreciation of the primary function and workings of the structure and its specification as determined by the customer or MBA.
Conduct analysis – designed to understand how the structure behaves under stress/loading with a particular focus on the margin of safety due to critical loads and, where feasible, improve / enhance performance.
Conduct detailed and appropriately thorough analysis of loading to ensure the product or component meet the necessary strength, rigidity and damage requirements (as per technical specification). This involves structural static, dynamic and damage analysis using classical hand calculations and mathematical modelling with advanced computational methods e.g. finite element analyses.
Prepare detailed Stress Reports to the relevant international standard as required by the customer or MBA (subject to further independent in-house review).
Carry out concessional / structural failure investigations.
Support Design in optimising product design, Production Engineering in optimal production and provide internal departments with structural loading data as required.
Assist the test department in preparation of structural test requirements (initial testing) – ensure all testing is to the required standard using appropriate stress sets / test criteria and that the relevant stress/load measurements are acquired.
Assist in the optimisation of the Stress & Structures department’s analytical methods, reporting and procedures.
To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed in order to maintain and / or improve the efficiency, quality and service provided by the Stress & Structures Department.
To undertake business travel abroad or within the UK as and when required.
Requirements
2.1 / 1st Master’s degree or higher – aeronautics or similar and ideally aerospace structures.
Must have recent experience in ANSYS classic.
Comprehensive planning and organisation skills / project management.
Highly developed communication skills: able to communicate verbally, in presentation format and in writing at senior level; able to develop links with other technical specialists within the business.
Excellent problem solving/investigative skills.
Strong expertise in mathematical modelling and software systems and highly skilled Excel (advanced level).
Exposure to mechanical engineering, stress, and vibration analysis, ideally gained from within aviation engineering or related industry.
General commercial and financial understanding and analytical ability.
General knowledge and experience of working within US Military Standards / UK Defence Standards.
Broad experience of conducting successful technical investigations and research.
