Purpose of the role:
To play a key role in developing mechanical solutions on the commercial vehicles that strike a critical balance between manufacturability, assembly, cost, function, and elegance. Our clients design engineers are highly skilled, multi-purpose individuals that may be asked to design a wide range of items from battery packs, motor mounting structures, and critical packaging assemblies. On top of this, they take accountability over their solutions and see their designs through multiple design gateways, procurement, installation and testing of their solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Specification, 3D and 2D design of components using Solidworks.
* Design for cost, assembly, manufacturing, and elegance.
* Manage subsystem requirements and gateway approvals to ensure all parts go through proper release process.
* Interface regularly with procurement team to select suppliers, release parts on time, and ensure parts arrive in timely fashion.
* Work with technicians to ensure parts are fit for purpose.
* Work with design lead to find, document and address corrective actions on prototype vehicles.
* Work closely with development team to outline test program for subassemblies and components, and be quick to address any issues that arise during testing.
Skills:
* Comprehensive knowledge of relevant manufacturing, materials, and engineering principles.
* Discipline with release procedures, drawing and parts tracking.
* Quick, lateral thinking to find simple and fast solutions.
* Strong drive to check work with hands-on-vehicle measurements.
Attributes:
* Hands-on experience either in professional or personal environments (Personal projects, working with factory floor, etc).
* Experience working in small, collaborative environments.
* Ability to create and maintain their own momentum in workplace.
* Evidence of lateral thinking in agile environments.
* Good attitude and optimistic towards future.
* Strong work ethic and genuine humility.
Qualifications:
(Essential)
* Automotive background
* 5+ years in highly relevant experience
* Highly proficient with at least one industry-standard CAD program (Solidworks, Catia, etc)
(Desirable)
* EV-related automotive experience
* Experience with development commercial vehicles
In-depth experience with machining and fabrication
