Key Responsibilities & Tasks

* Define and govern data modelling and design standards, tools, best practices, and related development.

* Implement business and IT data requirements through new data strategies and designs across all data platforms (relational, dimensional, and NoSQL) and data tools (reporting, visualization, analytics, and machine learning)

* Work proactively and independently to address business and IT requirements and articulate issues/challenges to reduce data model delivery risks

* Work with Business Subject Matter experts to understand the business data and analytical requirements and focus areas

* Work with the Application Development team to implement data strategies, build data flows and develop conceptual data models

* Continuously maintain, update and validate data models with key business representatives and end users, to ensure data relevancy and value for the organisation

* Recommend opportunities for reuse of data processes models

QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor’s degree or master’s in computer or data science, or a suitably numerate subject. Alternatively, significant relevant data modelling experience is also welcomed.

Experience

* Experienced in conceptual and logical modelling or top-down data classification using ontological techniques

* Experience with 3NF, dimensional or ontological modelling techniques

* Confident in writing complex SQL to investigate data issues, repair damaged data, and migrate data to new structures

* Experience of an object-oriented/object function scripting languages, with Python preferred

* Evidence of experience and achievement working in a cloud service provider

* Expertise in designing transformation rules for batch and streaming data processing

* Open to development and willing to learn new technologies

* A strong communicator who is prepared to challenge existing thinking, and who also welcomes constructive feedback. Must be a team player who relishes innovation and taking the initiative

Key Relationships

* Close interaction with the Tech Lead to deliver the optimal data model for the chosen data tech stack

* Collaborate with the data owner(s) to deliver the data model which accurately represents the BP Pulse business, and which can support operational and strategic decision-making
