Business Controller

Due to our continued success as one of the country’s leading suppliers of heavy commercial vehicles we have an exciting opportunity for a Business Controller who will be based in Milton Keynes Support Centre.
Reporting to the Head of Business Control – Services, you will provide control, analysis, guidance, and support to the Dealer Director to optimise branch performance and assist in the decision-making process at regional level. You will be taking sole ownership for business partnering, providing the Senior Management Team with commercial information to be able to make critical business decisions. We are looking for a qualified accountant with commercial analysis skills who can provide an essential insight into business performance and alert management to changes in trends.
Responsibilities for Business Controller:
Compiling and assisting in the presentation of the quarterly regional report to the SGB Executive Team.
Reviewing monthly management accounts, key performance indicators and conducting monthly business reviews.
Assisting in the decision making process at a regional level.
Providing dynamic analysis of trends relating to all areas of the business and helping to influence and challenge future decisions.
Undertaking business forecasting, budgeting and the annual market plan.
Conducting investment appraisals.
Detailed monthly performance reviews for branch operations, including sales volumes, margin performance, workshop ratios and expenses control.
Along with the Dealer Director, provide headline reporting on branch performance and deviations to forecast and present to the regional management team.
In conjunction with the Dealer Director and ASM, undertake monthly business reviews with Branch General Managers to drive the financial performance of the operation with strong emphasis on improving workshop performance, parts performance, stock control, cost control and cash flow.
Undertake regular reviews of branch balance sheet accounts identifying possible exposures and any releases to profit.
Support the Retail Parts Compliance Manager with coordination of branch parts stock checks, ensuring compliance to internal stock control policies.
Undertake benchmarking exercises to identify improvements in branch performance and simulate the potential returns from achieving set targets.
Generate quarterly regional projection and take a lead role in the production of the annual branch budgets.
Be actively involved in investment projects including the completion of both pre and post investment appraisals.
Provide dynamic analysis of trends relating to all areas of the business and help influence and challenge future decisions.
Assist in the analysis of the vehicle parc to drive service penetration and strategically direct the sales business towards the most valuable customers.
Support the Dealer Director in compiling the quarterly regional review pack.
Working with the Head of Business Control, drive the development and continual improvement of best practice with strong emphasis on workshop processes.
Work closely with the Central Finance function to ensure accurate and timely reporting to Group and compliance with internal controls and standards.
Undertake ad-hoc projects as required by the Regional and MK Management Teams.
Key requirements for Business Controller:
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and recommend actions based on multiple information sources
Effective communication and presentation skills both verbally and written
Good interpersonal skills for communication with all levels of staff within the organisation
Ability to organise work and be self-motivated
An ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team
Experience of Finance Business Partnering, ideally gained within an automotive environment
Previous automotive experience and knowledge of Autoline 8.35 would be beneficial although not essential.
Essential requirements to this role are:
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with proven commercial analysis skills
* Knowledge of Power BI, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
* An ability to work to tight deadlines
* Applicants should hold a full driving licence and be comfortable with overnight stays.
This role will be based at our Support Centre in Milton Keynes and will require regular travel to branch locations within the retail network.
