Brain Tumour Research is an ambitious charity, passionate about finding a cure for brain tumours through the establishment of dedicated Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence around the UK and challenging the Government and larger cancer charities to increase the national investment for research into brain tumours to £35 million a year and bring parity with other cancers.
Our vision is to find a cure for brain tumours. Our mission is to build a network of experts in sustainable research at seven dedicated Centres of Excellence.
Financial Accountant
Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations
Contract: Full Time – Permanent
Location: Head Office, Milton Keynes
Salary: Circa £40k
Job Purpose:
To guarantee accurate and meaningful management information by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the source financial data and ensure compliant and timely regulatory reporting and audit.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, you will be highly analytical with strong spreadsheet, database management and general IT skills as well as excellent attention to detail. You will be a good communicator with the ability to interact professionally at all levels and the confidence to challenge management as appropriate.
Main duties:
Responsible for data integrity of all systems used by the Charity
Manage the Charity’s Acloud Finance system
To ensure all entries are made promptly and accurately
All balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis
To recommend changes to/development of the software as appropriate to meet the needs of the organisation
Manage the Purchase Ledger by ensuring that all purchases are made according to relevant Policies and Procedures and payments made according to the current policy on Purchase Ledger payments.
Responsible for the fixed asset register, ensuring fixed assets are added and managed in line with the Finance Policy
Oversee stock movement recording to ensure accurate stock management and reporting
Manage the Charity’s long and short-term Cash Flow through the close monitoring of payments and receipts, on a weekly, monthly and annual basis and providing regular cash flow projections.
Assist the Director of Finance and Operations to produce annual statutory accounts and impact reports liaising with the auditors and providing financial and other supporting information as required
Accurate completion and timely submission of VAT Returns
Provide support for cost control and expense management and ensure compliance with Finance Regulations and financial control procedures
Maintain data confidentiality and comply with all regulatory requirements
Extract, summarise and compile data as required for internal and external reporting
Use MS Office to assist in compiling data for reporting and producing reports
Create, develop and manage internal procedures to ensure data integrity and efficient processes – maintain and update relevant policies and procedures
Liaise with system providers to ensure bugs are promptly reported, systems are maintained and fixes installed and communicated to the wider team as appropriate
Maintain and update relevant policies and procedures
Participate in Charity and departmental initiatives
To undertake other duties as required by Management from time to time
Candidate profile:
Ambitious qualified accountant proficient in finance systems, an advanced working knowledge of Excel and experience of statutory reporting.
