Job Details
Cobham Aerospace Connectivity are currently looking for an Electronics Design Engineer (to be known internally as a Manufacturing Engineer) to embed design for Manufacture principles into our new part introduction process. While you will be a subject matter expert, you will utilise your experience to support the improvement of manufacturing process across Cobham.
Reporting into the Head of Manufacturing Engineering this role will based at our offices in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
As an Electronics Design Engineer your key skills and experience should ideally include:
* E-CAD 3D solid modelling training and certification, electronic design and assessable simulation.
* PCB design experience
* Circuit design, assembly simulation, fault finding on PCB and testing for PCB manufacturing
* RF signal processing is vital
* Defence industry, SATCOM, PCB design for critical applications, small volume is ok, small complex PCB is ideal
* Charted engineer or working towards a charted engineering.
* Design for manufacturing and design for assembly process using digital twin.
* Manufacturing simulation experience.
* Member of IEEE or equivalent professional society.
* Ability to work with different functions and suppliers to understand their preferences and requirements so that an optimum cost model can be developed. There will be trades (i.e. compromises) but they need to be justified.
* Ability to work with models and designs that are not fully complete, and the ability to define definition preferences.
Core Competencies:
* E-CAD 3D sold modelling experience with NX E-CAD over 3 years.
* Good working knowledge in RF circuits and antenna communication electronics
* Electronic testing simulation software. (Electronic manufacturing and test simulation with PLM software.)
* Some experience with Programming language C++ , Matlab
* Model based manufacturing & electronics simulation software.
* Design experience in SMED, “poko yoko” tooling and design for manufacturing and assembly in the PCB industry
* PLC programming and robot integration
* Embracing and delivering local changes
* Problem Solving & Creativity (Green Belt would be an advantage)
* Managing Projects
As an Electronics Design Engineer your key responsibilities will include:
Implementing manufacturing process controls on all electronic products, defining Cp, Cpk and customer CTQs.
Lead the E-CAD design optimisation methods on a PLM platform, design verification and manufacturing process optimisation on a digital platform.
Manufacturing engineering electrical and electronics manufacturing. Controlling all manufacturing electronic designs.
Support the NPI team on DFMA, 3D sold modelling on all electronic components manufacturing methods. Optimising best method of manufacturing.
Gate keeper for all electronic manufacturing drawings and models used on the shop flow and external suppliers.
Design tooling, fixtures and assembly models and drawings for internal and external manufacturing.
Produce 3D solid models for model based manufacturing instructions.
Creating and maintaining electronics assessable testing and methods and procedure.
Introduce lean manufacturing methods into electronics assessable, develop electronic circuit joining technology and automation methods.
Gate keeper for all electronic PCB manufacturing route cards and work procedures. Create model based work instructions and improve productivity.
Process simulation of manufacturing process and optimisation of manufacturing process.
Introduce best practice PLM and MES system into operations.
Owning the unit cost models for newly designed parts for the Operations function. Capturing any changes to the cost model in terms of both Unit Costs and Operational Assumptions – for example design changes or volume changes – so that traceability can be understood easily during the design process.
Supporting NPI programs with the DFMA, tolerance, design optimisation and value engineering support.
Design and develop electronics testing and characterisation capability. PCB testing and functional testing equipment development.
Working with our supply chain (internal and external) to review designs in progress so that the best cost model decision can be made based on the data provided – for example balancing higher tooling costs with lower unit against lower tooling costs with higher unit costs for different volume scenarios. Providing break-points for the above scenarios and feeding any capital requirements into the departmental / project budgets.
Capturing operational best practice / preferences and developing cost models to allow Design Group to ‘trade’ different attributes – for example cost vs weight.
Helping to develop a low-complexity: high-variety product mix based on standard family templates.
Where possible, highlighting and driving new processes / methods developed for new parts back into our legacy products.
