For the last 25 years, my client has forged a solid reputation within the manufacturing sector. An established privately owned British business who can quote a respectable growth in staff numbers and profit during the last year. Even in these times they are business as usual.
My client manufactures some fascinating and exciting products on behalf of a variety of clients, some of which have been with them for many years, with more new clients and contracts being won.
As part of future growth plans, we need someone who is a natural leader, a motivator, a strategic negotiator a thinker and a do-er. Someone who will roll up their sleeves and get things done and one who can work closely with the company owner to deliver service excellence and increase profitability.
We are looking for an experienced Materials Manager to manage and develop a small but growing team of supply chain and buyers. A manager who can engage, coach and lead by example.
Job Role & Scope:
Manage all Materials within the business including sourcing, NPI, material acquisition, inventory, supplier scheduling, freight and supplier quality.
Responsibilities to include:
Materials strategy including supplier strategies – Quality, Cost Delivery
Supplier selection, assessment, performance and improvement
Material costs and cost reduction
Supplier quality / quality improvement
Material acquisition and related processes
Inventory / Inventory reduction
Continuous improvement
Material systems
Leadership of materials, staff recruitment and development
Essential
Relevant sourcing skills of plastics, metals or electronics
Materials skills – knowledge of relevant ERP systems
Materials – strong knowledge and experience of change management related to materials and materials management – BOM’s, systems, PULL systems, Consignment, VMI, Kanban, MRP, MPS
Man management / Leadership Skills – skills to lead a team, mentor and develop staff
Ability to work with Engineering on NPI and to influence the business on approaches to materials management and manufacturing
Proactive cost reduction experience – ie: experience of working in products/markets where cost reduction is a major element in the culture
Devising a supplier strategy and developing a high quality supplier base capable of PULL systems, Kanban etc
Success is achieving high stock turns
Implementation of change and improvement with systems and materials management
Systems implementation of new ERP systems

Qualifications
Degree or formal Business or technical qualifications in electro-mechanical or electronics OR Significant experience of a similar role in another business over many years
