Are you tired of midnight closes and working split shifts? If so, we are seeking an experienced, caring and dedicated Chef / Cook to join our catering team in delivering high quality, fresh, home cooked meals for our residents. The role is working in an attractive and comfortable 30 bedded Care Home that specialises in elderly care.

Salary: From £13.50+ per hour
8/9am-4/5pm shifts
40+ hours per week
Whether you're new to care or have years of experience you understand what it means to provide an exceptional dining experience and you know how to make sure your residents are at the heart of everything you do. The role of the Chef is to be in charge of the kitchen and to lead the Cook and Kitchen Assistants to create balanced and nutritious meals for the residents ensuring their continued good health. Nutrition is extremely important when it comes to health and well-being and the Care Home recognises this, your responsibility will be making sure that the residents are provided with satisfying yet healthy food which is freshly prepared each day. You will work to create inspiring mealtimes for residents at the home, catering to all preferences and dietary requirements and using local and fresh produce where possible. You will also be responsible for food stock levels and to keep the Kitchen clean and tidy whilst operating to the relevant statutory guidelines and principles
Candidates will ideally have a Food Hygiene Certificate and previous experience of working in a Care Home, School or similar environment. (Previous Care Home Chef experience will be beneficial but is not essential.) A good understanding of Health and Safety and COSHH guidelines is essential. Qualifications within Catering/Hospitality/Professional Cookery would be looked upon favourably but are not essential. You will need to be aware and conversant with the relevant Health and Safety at Work, Environmental Health, and Food and Hygiene regulations.
The role would suit an experienced Sous-Chef looking to build on and develop existing managerial skills and run their own kitchen and staff team or an established Head Chef or Chef Manager tired of the traditionally unsociable hours.
Chef Main Duties:
Provide varied, nutritious and well balanced meals to the Residents – the opportunity for menu planning and developing
Ensure the specific dietary needs and preferences of residents are met
To be responsible for the storage and rotation of food stocks, ensuring use by dates are not exceeded and that wastage is kept to a minimum by such rotation
Liaise and develop relationships with new or existing suppliers
To ensure the food stock levels are adequate by providing an order list to the Registered Manager in the appropriate timescale
To ensure that proper standards of cleanliness are maintained, to exercise due diligence regarding food safety and to ensure that hygiene and food handling regulations are strictly adhered to at all times

Chef Qualifications (Preferred but not essential)
Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate
City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, Hospitality and Catering
Diploma Level 2 in Professional Cookery
