My Client is recruiting for a Laboratory Scientist in the Water Sector
My Client are Laboratory Water Specialists, working with scientists, healthcare and diagnostic professionals as the trusted name for purified water needs for over 80 years.
What will I be doing?
The business designs and builds small-scale water purification systems for applications such as molecular biology, pharmaceutical research, trace analysis, clinical assays and sterilisation.
This role will be working within the Research and Development process team on new water purification technologies and products on the laboratory scale.
The work will primarily involve using analytical equipment to measure performance of laboratory-scale test rigs, prototypes and finished products. Equipment operation/maintenance, sample collection, data processing and preparation of test reports are primary activities. Monitoring operation of test processes and teamworking are also important aspects of the role.
Analysis and MeasurementTo participate in ensuring that an efficient analytical service is provided by the department
Maintaining a good working knowledge of the appropriate analytical techniques
Operation of a variety analytical equipment (including ICP-MS and HPLC) to support project work
Maintaining and developing Work Instructions for analytical methods and equipment
Carrying out maintenance, monitoring and calibration of laboratory equipment
Sourcing and justifying purchase of analytical equipment to progress new projects
Liaising with third-party laboratories to outsource analysis as required
Operation of test equipment associated with new products and processesCarry out pilot rig and finished product testwork and associated tasks
Involvement in the process design and testing of new products
Collaborating in setting design/objectives of testwork, with time-scales
Accurate recording of experimental findings, report writing and outcome presentation.
Innovation: identifying, learning about & sourcing, technologies and components to create successful new processes.
Project SupportAcquire a detailed familiarity of the technologies used within the water purification product range and the projects being carried out within the department. Use this knowledge to provide support to other team members.
Experience and Qualifications:
Must haves….
A degree in chemistry, or similar technical qualification
Experience of working in a laboratory environment with a team of scientists/engineers
Practical knowledge of lab procedures and techniques, and analytical chemistry (beyond that gained at University)
Strength in mathematics, to manipulate and analyse sets of numerical data is essential
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the confidence to document and present test results and project outcomes
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise, working to deadlines
Having a practical hobby which can be illustrated at an interview will be advantageous
Less experienced candidates may also be considered provided they aspire to develop, and can show an aptitude and enthusiasm for learning and practical work
