SENDhelp are looking for a passionate and experienced Learning Mentor to work closely with our partner school located in the heart of High Wycombe.
This Special Needs School provides a safe, welcoming, and purposeful atmosphere for children to learn and play at their own paste. Catering to children between the ages of 11 – 19 with significant challenging behaviour and severe learning needs, our partner school values the learning of each child and have created a specialised learning programme to suit their needs.
The school's philosophy of unconditional acceptance means that each child is listened to and encouraged to express their wants and needs. Reported by Ofsted, this school has been found to have address all areas of improvements identified at previous inspections and are now at a place where they can better support their pupils ensuring that they can make good progress.
Our partner school have developed a unique learning curriculum whereby children with severe learning needs are taught on a one-to-one basis in their own sanctuary room by their learning mentors. Older students are also taken out for "work experience" allowing them to build their independence and ease their transition into adulthood.
To enable our partner school to carry on providing effective care to pupils, here is where your knowledge and expertise come in!
Our partner school are looking for a Learning Mentor to start working with them at a full-time basis. Ideally the post- holder will:
Most likely have a relevant qualification and/ or have previous experience working with students.
Be willing to obtain qualifications and / or undertake relevant training
Be available to work from September on a full-time basis
Support in staff in the preparation of daily activities, such as, food preparation, organising workplaces etc
Engage with students on a 1 10 1 basis and refer to their individual Education programmes (IEP`s) to assist in learning
Participate in Annual reviews
As part of this role, you would also need to take time to assist in specific administration tasks associated with students. In addition to this you would often have to Liaise with staff and various healthcare providers on any changes to the child's learning need.
