A small and intimate special needs school based in High Wycombe caters for primary aged students who are no longer able to attend their mainstream special school is looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team.

This school changes to meet the needs of its diverse pupils and is able to provide a bespoke and holistic education environment.

With only 10 students at any given time each child is supported on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis. When you join the team at this small school you will be a key player in helping your assigned children to develop, grow and achieve.

This long term/permanent position is an exciting opportunity for a resilient and strong individual who is confident in supporting challenging students with their SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) needs and challenging behaviour.

As a HLTA your objective is to build rapport with the children at this school and to apply a variety of techniques and strategies to deescalate and manage the children’s complex needs. Various training is provided by the school, including Team Teach which will be key to your success in this role. If you have any behaviour management training, please step forward!

Your duties as a HLTA will include:

* Attend planning meetings and under the overall direction and guidance of the teacher, contribute to the short, medium and long term planning and preparation of lessons.

* Preparation and delivery of lessons, under the direction of the teacher, including covering for teacher absence and delivery specific interventions to pupils.

* Monitoring, evaluating and providing teachers with feedback on pupils’ participation and progress.

* Contributing to the maintenance of pupils’ records.

* Help pupils make progress in a range of classroom settings including working with individuals, small groups and whole classes where the assigned teacher is not present.

* Support teachers in selecting and preparing teaching resources that meet the pupils’ needs and interests. Liaise with the class teacher to devise complementary learning activities.

* Supervise a group of Teaching Assistants

* Attending and contributing to annual review meetings with parents and other professionals in order to support the monitoring and development of the child where appropriate.
