Job Purpose:

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Adopting a proactive approach to improving performance by engaging with the management team and all staff
* Developing new ways of driving sustainability performance through the operating company and leading on initiatives within projects
* Keeping up-to-date with the sustainability agenda, new legislation and best practice guidelines and understanding how they may affect the company. This may include developing local approaches
* Preparing reports and attending meetings with management to discuss sustainability performance
* Working with project teams throughout the whole development process from land buying to design, the purchase of goods and services and build, through to sales and customer service to implement sustainability initiatives and innovative approaches
* Raising awareness of sustainability and the Group’s Our Vision framework via both formal and informal training of staff
* Undertaking frequent visits to construction sites to assess compliance with the in-house environmental management system and making recommendations for improvement
* Assisting in the accurate collation, analysis and reporting of data (such as waste volumes and utility use) to enable the assessment of performance against sustainability targets
* Preparing guidance to assist project teams in managing sustainability
* Working as part of the Group’s Sustainability Committee to drive good practice and implement commitments
* Compiling written reports on sustainability performance
Technical Competencies:
* Degree in a relevant subject
* Several years of experience in an operational sustainability role, preferably within the built environment
Person Specification:
* Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
* Confidence in influencing and working with people at all levels in an organisation
* The ability to motivate people to change their behaviour
* Experience of delivering training
* Good knowledge of sustainability issues, preferably within the construction/house building industry
* A broad view of sustainability, focusing not only on environmental issues, but also the relative importance of social and economic impacts of our activities
