Job Title: Senior Support Worker/Team Leader
Responsible to: Home Manager
Responsible for: Support Workers
Principal duties
1. The responsibilities and duties will be varied, and the detail will vary according to the needs of the clients and the environment. What follows should therefore be regarded as a broad outline rather than as an exhaustive list.
2. To assist the Manager in the operation of the home and other programmes.
3. To assist the Manager in the development of mutual help and interaction between residents, individual volunteers, staff members and the wider community in accordance with the operational brief.
4. To development of close contacts with the local community through relationship and neighbours and friends.
In relation to the Manager:
1. To deputise for the Manager in his/her absence. To plan and lead meetings. Contribute to decision making as part of the Management team.
2. Promote and maintain effective lines of communication within the home.
3. To undertake specific aspects of staff and residents and administrative tasks as delegated by the Manager.
4. To share with the Manager the overall supervision of the home e.g. awareness and implementation of Health & Safety at Work policies, fire drills and organisation's policy procedures.
5. To participate in duty rota including weekends and evening, to carry out sleep-in and wake night duties when required, to supervise, assist and deploy staff in order to maintain 24 hour staff cover for consistent care in accordance with the home’s needs.
6. To assist in the selection, induction, training, support of staff and volunteers.
7. To assist in developing the use of community resources.
8. To assist in promotion of good working relationship with other professionals and people
with significant interests in the residents.
9. To maintain a good working relationship with Care Managers and other professionals, voluntary organisations and relatives or other significant people in life of resident.
In relation to residents:
1. Assist Manager in operation of an agreed admission procedure.
2. Acquire an understanding of each resident's needs, in order to monitor the implementation of care plans for individuals.
3. Assist Manager in the design and implementation of a programme of activities that is responsive to individual resident's needs and abilities.
4. Assist the Manager in maintaining a system of resident assessment, which involves key support worker role, care plans and regular reviews.
5. To ensure that residents participate as fully as possible in the programme design and development of the quality of life.
6. Undertake specific areas of direct work with clients as part of the support team and to assist with the everyday needs/care of the residents when necessary.
7. To encourage, where possible, the participation of the residents in the running of the home.
8. To assist in creating an environment, which is conductive to maintaining the dignity of the individual.
9. To provide for the wellbeing of the residents, including their physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs.
In relation to Staff:
Lead, motivate, supervise, support and monitor staff to set, achieve and maintain a high standard of care and therapeutic services.
1. To assist the Manager in developing a system of staff supervision that will:
a. be a vehicle for ensuring staff are working in a purposeful way to meet residents' needs and
b. provides support and development opportunities for staff by identifying individual training and ensuring they are monitored and met.
In relation to administration:
1. To have a full knowledge of the organisation's procedures and to assist in ensuring their implementation.
2. To assist in ensuring the maintenance of case and residents records.
3. To assist in ensuring the maintenance of an accurate financial records and procedures
relating to the home and the resident’s monies and valuables.
4. Undertake routine admin tasks, e.g. stock control, record of accounts.
5. Ensure any drugs/medicines are present in the home are correctly stored and supervised.
6. Provide care reports and other information as appropriate, on clients as requested by the Manager. Monitor written assessments and reports prepared by members of support workers.
In relation to the physical aspects of the home:
1. To assist in ensuring that the building/grounds are maintained in good order.
2. To assist in ensuring, so far as possible, the security of the home and the residents
