GBR Recruitment are working in close partnership with a leading Construction Machinery Hire Company recruiting for an experienced Transport Team Leader to oversee the Haulage of the specialist machinery to clients sites across the local area & the UK.
This is a key role controlling all elements of a busy high volume transport office overseeing a small team of Planners / Coordinators & Clerks.
You will have experience within the Transportation of Goods ideally Plant Hire, Construction Machinery or other abnormal loads / long or heavy goods vehicles (C&E articulated low loaders).
Duties:
* Route Planning using cost effective planning skills, across time efficient routes
* Keep regular contact with all drivers/contractors throughout the day to ensure everything is running to plan in terms of delivery OTIF so the end using customer/s don't experience any delays in their busy work schedules
* Booking in any driver deliveries with the end using customer i.e. building sites etc.
* Liaise regularly in the day pre-delivery & post delivery with the end using client ensuring they are 100% happy with the customer service they have received
* Keep accurate daily logs of any ‘adhoc’ transport (emergency, failed delivery/collection etc)
* Ensure all vehicles are road worthy & compliant with legislation as H&S is paramount
* Ensure all driver tachos and vehicle downloads dealt with within DVSA guidelines
* Produce & supply drivers with PO's
* Negotiate preferential rates with contract hauliers (3rd parties)
* Maintain an accurate record of all works to support analysis of the transport planning
* Produce accurate MI reports for the Transport department
* Responsible for the Transport departments budgets / P&L
Experience & Skills:
* Experience of working in a Transport Team Leader/Supervisor or Manager role ideally with C&E HGV within a similar or comparable sector & abnormal loads
* Experience with running a fleet of HGV plus low loader trailers
* CPC trained & qualified
* Strong geographical knowledge of the UK for planning & scheduling
* Used to being responsible for departmental budgeting
* Used to managing directly employed drivers & contractors / 3PL providers
* Adaptable with duties & working hours to fully support the business
You will ideally be based close to: St Albans, Luton, London Colney, Watford, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Kings Langley, Harpenden, Hertford, Cheshunt, Barnet, New Barnet, Boreham Wood, Berhamsted, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Tring, Stevenage, Harlow, Ware, Bishops Stortford, Hitchin & other areas close to these
