Driver / Yard Operative

The role is a combination of local multi-drop deliveries plus various yard duties such as picking orders, loading customers vehicles, and maintaining yard tidiness.

The main vehicles used will be a 7.5 Tonne dropside lorry, Ford Transit. Manual off-loading is normally required, as well as cooperating with the customer’s requests. Products include timber fencing components, fence panels, garden sheds, gates.

The following qualifications are required:

* Current Drivers CPC and digital tacho card and HGV licence suitable for a 7.5 Tonne vehicle.

The following qualifications are a helpful but not essential:

* Counter balance forklift certificate *

* Training for the forklift will be provided for the right candidate.

The yard element includes picking orders, maintaining the tidiness of the yard, helping to replenish stock levels from the main stock yard, and loading customer’s vehicles with the products they have purchased. Loading is done by hand and forklift where appropriate, and you will be one of a team of people loading the customers once they have purchased their goods. Familiarity with a tape measure is important as is making accurate use of picking / delivery notes.

Both of these roles are customer facing so a pleasant and helpful manner is extremely important, as well as being presentable at all times.

Performance for this role will be judged on:

* Manner with which customer is dealt with and customer feedback.

* Timeliness of deliveries and keeping to schedule.

* Safe working and driving practices.

* Maintaining and reporting condition of the vehicles.

* Accurate use of picking notes / delivery notes / tape measure to ensure customers get exactly what has been ordered.

* Presentability and attitude
