Job Title: Mortgage Underwriter

Location: Home based for now but will be based in Buckinghamshire when the office re-opens

Salary: £35,000

Hours: Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm

Our client is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced underwriter to join its busy Mortgages Department. In this challenging and varied role, you will be a key member of the Underwriting Team, which includes DIP decisions, manual underwriting, and control checks. You will work closely with the Head of Lending and Head of Underwriting to develop the Underwriting Team so that they are seen as "the best in class". This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, highly motivated person to join a high performing team.

Responsibilities required for the role of Mortgage Underwriter

Timely and prudent lending decisions in line with our clients risk appetite and authorisation limits
Working with the team to meet and exceed SLA levels.
Preparing cases for referral to Credit Committee for approval.
Production and sign off mortgage offers for lending within mandate once full supporting documentation is in place.
Delivering a first class personalised service: Liaising with customers, intermediaries, valuers and solicitors during the processing of their mortgage through to the completion. .
Assist with training, coaching and development of staff within the mortgage department (mortgage admin).
Review existing processes and procedures: make recommendations on how these can be improved.
Work closely with the Key Account Managers to ensure that the quality of applications meets the Society's requirements.Experience required for the role of Mortgage Underwriter

A full CeMAP qualification although the qualification can be offered.
Significant experience of manual underwriting residential and buy to let mortgages for a lender with a mandate approval of a minimum £200k
Experience of dealing with broker, intermediaries, and packagers.
Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
