Lead Ecologist required to join an award winning multi-disciplinary Environmental consultancy firm focusing on HS2 projects.
The position comes with flexibility to work from home with a connection to a Buckinghamshire or Middlesex office.
Duties include:
Production of construction phase documents
Ecology and Landscape Management Plan update
Site-specific Environmental Management Plan update
Inputs to site induction materials
Inputs to site-based meetings/presentations
Permit to Clear and Permit to Dig (TBC) input
Ecological Method Statements/Mitigation Strategies
Ecological Tool Box Talks – production and delivery
ECoW daily reporting – compliance checks, survey reports, any other reporting
Inputs to Construction Lighting and Construction Noise plans (both TBC)
Section 28 applications and consultation
U&A compliance
Habitat creation
Managing and implementing micro habitat features – bat boxes, hibernacula, reptile egg-laying heaps, invertebrate/reptile banks etc
ECoW watching briefs and design implementation for all habitat creation/site re-instatement
Habitat Management Plan and design compliance checks, including NNL
Maintenance for Fusion habitat creation sites. Scope transfer TBC
Species survey and mitigation
Co-ordination and management of ECoWs
Badger monitoring including stockpiles
Artificial badger sett monitoring. Licence to be transferred to ALIGN and end of licence report required.
Little ringed plover and skylark monitoring / risk reduction
Corn bunting surveys
Other Schedule 1 bird monitoring e.g. kingfisher, Cetti's warbler
Water vole and otter survey river Colne realignment and berm construction and NYGB realignment
Broadwater Lake noise / bird disturbance monitoring and annual reporting to NE
Preliminary ecological appraisals and reporting – for T&C applications outside LLAU
Site checks for notable and protected species immediately prior to site clearance
Undertake destructive searches during site clearance
Barn owl box check.
Mitigation/licence implementation.

Qualifications
Educated to degree or Masters level in Ecological related subject
CIEEM Membership preferred
Experience
Excellent knowledge of ecological management and mitigation
Excellent understanding of ecological legalisation for development
Good level of commercial awareness
Good understanding of environmental management for construction sites
Excellent understanding of the utilities/construction/engineering operating environment
Literate in MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook
Good interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills
Experience of working on large scale infrastructure construction/highways projects
Experienced with dealing with Natural England on such issues
Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the project
