Job purpose
Responsible for the safe machining of components to meet drawing specification requirements using :
Andmar Surface grinder. Up to 1.2 meters length
Kent surface grinder up to 400mm
Vertical manual honing machine
Jones and shipmen Cylindrical Grinder
Agie Charmilles Cut 20 and E600
Part of the purpose of the role is to offer a quick response provision to manufacturing requests. The purpose of the role is to meet the key tasks and responsibilities listed below to the best standard possible in line with the KPI's shown.

1. Machine components to drawings, programs and printouts as requested. This may well include the programming (where applicable), prove-out and running of the machines, on a regular basis.
2. To ensure machines work to their optimum effectiveness, following the defined manufacturing process.
3. Ensure quality checks are made in line with business requirements and fulfil any documentation in respect of this.
4. To ensure the maintenance logs are maintained and maintenance requirements are thoroughly carried out according to the requirements of the machines you operate.
5. All machine breakdowns are notified and recorded however minor as laid out in procedures.
6. To be flexible and support un-manned machining at all times.
7. To be supportive and participative in all activities initiated by production engineering or manufacturing management.
8. To maintain a 'clean' operating environment around the machine, including benches and to ensure that associated work area is a safe working environment with the emphasis on safe working practices including tidiness and housekeeping.
9. To be fully aware of the requirements laid down by the Health & Safety and COSHH regulations and ensure they are being adhered to. Ensure that associated work area is a safe working environment with the emphasis on:
– Safe working practices including tidiness and housekeeping
– Safe use of regularly maintained material handling equipment
– Recognition and ability to deal with hazards and hazardous materials.
– Aware of COSHH and RIDDOR regulations and abide by them.
10. To undertake duties as required by the Machine Shop Supervision.
11. To highlight training needs as deemed necessary to fulfil job role.
12. Accidents and incidents are reported to the Supervisor in a timely manner and observing RIDDOR regulations.
13. To ensure all product and administration disciplines are met, in line with our ISO Quality Standard.
14. To recommend process changes to ensure continuous improvement.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:
Machining Apprenticeship or similar time served machining experience.
Min. 5 years experience working with conventional or CNC machine tools.
Formal Engineering qualification. Min. City and Guilds or similar.
Mature and conscientious approach to work.
Self-motivated but team working.
Problem solving skills.
Computer experience.
Key Experiences
The job holder should have experience of the key aspects of the role as described in key competencies. They should have experience of working in this kind of working environment the safety requirements that go with this type of role and operating different types of manufacturing machinery. They should also have experience of using different types of metrology (Measuring equipment) and are able to check their own work.

Key Performance Indicators ( KPI's) or other performance measures for the person and area include-
Safety -All risks are reviewed and understood, standards are adhered to and all assessments are kept up to date.
Product quality -In excess of 98% of all orders are clear of any quality issues.
Product delivery -95% minimum on time delivery.
Personal and team Productivity levels -Achieve the productivity level in line with the individual and team targets.
Cost and tooling spend -Work within the budgeted costs for tooling spend.
Enviroment 5s scores -Participate to maintain the set standard for the area you work and the machine shop.
Personal objectives -Achieve these to the best standards possible. These are set at your yearly review.
Working conditions
The working conditions are typically usual Machine shop and assembly environments. A range of circumstances which may be included in this role are Nightshift work and overtime. Travel is generally not required in the role but may happen on occasions to receive appropriate training or to review equipment.
Physical requirements
The role can be physically demanding at times so the person must be physically healthy due to the need to move and handle awkward and heavy items. The role requires that the person must be active and able to stand on their feet for extended periods of time
