School Bursar / Business Manager with operational and financial responsibility and key member of the SLT.

They are now looking to recruit for their next exceptional member of the SLT someone that will lead their non-teaching functions and continue to build on the very high standards these departments already provide.
Your new role
The Bursar is the school's leading non-teaching staff professional and works as part of the Senior Team to assist the Headteacher in their duty to ensure that the school meets its educational aims by providing professional leadership and management of the school's non-teaching staff
Your key areas of responsibility will be across Finance, Administration, ICT Management and infrastructure, Human Resources, Facilities Management, and Health & Safety Management. Responsibilities will include:
● Negotiate and influence strategic decision making within the school's Senior Leadership Team
● Plan and manage change in accordance with the school development/strategic plan
● Responsible for all aspects of Marketing and communications
Financial Resource Management
● Consult with the Budget Managers, Senior Team and Governors to prepare a realistic and balanced budget for school activity
● Propose revisions to the budget if necessary, in response to significant or unforeseen developments
● Maintain a strategic financial plan that will indicate the trends and requirements of the school development plan and will forecast future year budgets
● Work with the Development Team and Facilities Manager to maximise income through lettings and other activities
Administration Management
● Manage the whole school administrative function and lead all support staff
● Ensure visitor management systems are in place to safeguard the school's students, staff and property
● Design and maintain administrative systems that deliver outcomes based on the school's aims and goals including the School's parent communication systems
● Prepare information for publications and returns for the DFE, LA and other agencies and stakeholders within statutory guidelines
Facilities Management
● Ensure the Facilities Manager is meeting all statutory requirements of facilities management
● Draw up a strategic facilities plan which is feasible and affordable
● Ensure ancillary services e.g. catering, cleaning, etc., are monitored and managed effectively
Human Resource Management
● Be the HR lead for the school, liaising with external HR companies to obtain guidance as required
● Checking staff contracts and maintaining contract templates to current HR standards
● Maintaining oversight of recruiting and salary setting processes to ensure records are kept to meet audit requirements and propriety is observed at all levels
● Support the Leadership Team in the recruitment, performance management, appraisal and development for all non-teaching staff
Health and Safety (H&S)
● Acting as the school's H&S Officer and Fire Officer
● Plan, instigate and maintain records of fire practices and alarm tests
● Ensure the school's written Health & Safety policy statement is clearly communicated and available to all people
● Ensure the Health & Safety Policy is implemented at all times, put into practice and is subject to review and assessment at regular intervals or as situations change
Governance Function:
● Support the clerk to the governors in ensuring all Company returns to Companies House and HMRC are submitted accurately and on time
● Support the Governors in their self-evaluation using the Schools Resource Management Self-assessment Tool and other tools
● Ensure all School Fund returns to the Charities Commission and HMRC are submitted accurately and on time
● Administer all School Fund correspondence and Trustees' meetings
What you'll need to succeed
You will hold a professional Business Manager or Finance qualification, practical experience of managing a diverse portfolio of department responsibilities and having worked at a senior level contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation. As a natural leader of staff you will both motivate and develop staff to meet, achieve and exceed the schools vision and values. You will need both highly effective and engaging communication skills and an ability to effectively prioritise activities.
