Position Title: Infrastructure DBA Consultant (Oracle)

Reports To: Head of IT and Infrastructure

Remuneration: £45,000-£60,000 dependant on experience & package (Health, bonus, 10% pension)

Main Purpose:

Our client, a consulting organisation specialising in enterprise solutions and IBM Gold partner are looking to recruit an experienced Oracle Database Administrator with an excellent track record deploying, supporting, and managing databases on premise and in the cloud.

The current data platform estate is a mix of Oracle 12c, IBM DB2, and SQL Server. This role would lend itself well to someone who is willing to learn new skills outside of the database arena, as alongside your DBA duties, you will be working on a host of technologies within the infrastructure team.

Specific Responsibilities:

Industry standard, and general DBA responsibilities across a portfolio of supported databases

Work with production databases for continual optimal performance tuning, standardisation, troubleshooting, design, and architecture

Patching/updating/upgrading our hosted cloud solution database infrastructure as part of a preventative maintenance schedule.

Security best practice, working with the existing ISO27001 framework

Provide advanced troubleshooting assistance to application administrators and application developers, including code reviews and best practice advice

Database DevOps support from development to production for change control and deployments

Log, update and track technical issues and requests raised by clients. Accurately documenting, diagnosing, investigating, and resolving these issues.

Work with 3rd party suppliers to quickly resolve technical issues with the database and other systems.

Perform routine daily maintenance checks to ensure client databases are running efficiently as per defined procedures.

Ensuring that RTO and RPO objectives can be met

Perform installations and patches of IBM WebSphere, HTTP Server and IBM Maximo software using IBM middleware and multiple database technologies (SQL, Oracle, DB2, MySQL)

Person Specification

Skills & Personal Qualities – Required:

Demonstrable working experience as a DBA

Oracle Tools, DB2 Monitoring and System performance (Data Management Console)

Previous experience of supporting an enterprise DB estate.

In-depth knowledge in the structure and implementation of databases (Oracle/DB2/SQL databases in particular)

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Working knowledge of Windows Server operating systems

Constant attention for minimising database unplanned downtime, management of parameters, configuration and tuning methods to provide fast query responses

High availability/clustering and disaster recovery design

Testing maintenance processes and schedules (Backup and DR testing)

Develop and maintain system documentation for all database instances and interfaces

Skills & Personal Qualities – Desired:

Strong T-SQL, performance tuning and index maintenance experience.

A knowledge of integration tools like MQ Series, IIB or ACE

Previous experience with data migration projects.

Technology minded and focused, enthusiastic about technologies.

A willingness to share knowledge and information among colleagues and relevant business partners

Working knowledge of Linux operating systems

Ability to automate installations/configuration of database software using automation
