Just Food Recruitment, part of The JFR Group, is recruiting for an experienced Controls Engineering Manager to join this established food manufacturer based in Milton Keynes.
Key Role Purpose:
The Controls Engineering Manager has responsibility for the development of the automation and controls systems to ensure the engineering design is robust and reliable. Whilst our client is still on their journey to manufacturing excellence, it is important that as the site’s technical lead, the Controls Engineering Manager will be well versed in fault finding control systems and able to train out these skills to other engineers.
Key Accountabilities:
Organisation of automation, electrical and PLC design projects through identification of short-term and long-range opportunities.
Management and control of two direct reports to deliver the automation and control strategy.
Preparation of time schedules, costs and detailed documentation on completion, for all related projects.
Supporting the commissioning of newly installed equipment.
Troubleshooting and analysis of breakdowns and processing issues, recommending practical corrective actions.
Management of PLC & control stock items, promoting standardisation of components to minimise stock holding and increase spares availability.
Liaise with and support other sites as necessary and in conjunction with other sites, develop and implement UK wide standard engineering practices, to ensure consistency in programming and systems design.
Ensure all work is carried out safely and meets current standards and regulations.
Maintain stakeholder communication, tailoring delivery to the intended audience.
Ensure that back up files are up to date and available.
Training and development of operational engineering teams in process fault finding – PLC’s and control systems.
Training and development of direct reports.
Lead continuous improvement activities within the department, driving the development of CI skills of self and direct reports, applying knowledge as appropriate.
Supporting the project team with the planning and implementation of projects.
Key skills Requried:
Ability to initiate and complete projects with limited scope, gaining stakeholder buy-in.
Ability to analyse and review operational issues and challenges, applying innovative engineering solutions.
Strong interpersonal skills and extremely resourceful.
Excellent analytical skills
Problem solving and critical thinking.
Ability to write PLC and HMI code
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practises.
Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget & timeline.
