Senior Test & Development Engineer – Powertrain, Automotive, Bedfordshire, £Neg rate, Umb 12m ongoing contract
Unknown Recruitment are looking for experienced test, development, and calibration engineer to conduct and lead the test activity for our Automotive R&D client based in Bedfordshire. The Senior Test & Development Engineer will have responsibility for conducting engine tests, modify calibration and sign off the test data results. This requires a good understanding of combustion engines, test facilities and problem solving. It is a day-to-day hands on role and the candidate must have test experience which reflects this.
Senior Test and Development Engineer – Powertrain Responsibilities:
* Plan and conduct engine tests to support Performance, Economy, functional requirements and calibration to support overall program requirements
* Maintain data quality and test result integrity and repeatability by working with in house team.
* Plan, manage and deliver various tests to tight time scales.
* Demonstratable ability to problem solve, analyse data & formally present & report on the outcome.
* Ability to run a wide variety of rig, powertrain, and vehicle tests to demonstrate performance, and efficiency of a range of different engine concepts, technologies, and fuels.
* Calibration experience and understanding of strategy and control including tools such INCA
* Hands on testing and test problem solving experience including SWAT analysis
* Ability to assimilate and analyse large quantities of data and post process using in house toolchain to facilitate the smooth running of test cells.
* Develop a good understanding of test methods and standards for the test facility.
* To provide test result data in a clear, concise, accurate and timely manner to support programme milestone reporting.
* To lead test cell issue resolutions where necessary in order to identify primary system issue and help lead 8D problem solving.
* Ablity to conduct vehicle test & evaluations.
* Ability to improve the diagnostic capability of the team and share this knowledge across the team.
Senior Test and Development Engineer – Powertrain Requirements:
* Engineering graduate with minimum 5 years’ experience of testing internal combustion engines
* Experience in test cell operation, calibration, and test & development for performance, economy and emissions.
* Fluent in engines systems and technology
* Knowledge of whole vehicle testing including heavy goods vehicles testing
* Experienced in the use of software diagnostic tools, measuring equipment and data logging.
* Demonstrable sound engineering background with experience and knowledge of automotive system functionality and software diagnostic systems
* Has SME and / or start up experience (desired, not essential) and attracted by the unique challenges of a small business
* Pragmatic, autonomous individual who has the ability to communicate complex issues
