EYFS Learning Support Assistant – High Wycombe

MAIN PURPOSE
To support the Early Years Teacher in the running of the Early Years department.
To act as a key worker for particular groups of children as assigned by the Early Years Teacher.
Complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This will involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities suitable for Early Years age children as individuals or groups of children. Observing the learning/play progress of children and assessing, recording and reporting on their achievement and development, including meetings with parents.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN
Supervising learning and play of Early Years children.
Instigate and engage in quality interactions that enhance the development of communication and language.
Establish productive working relationships with children, acting as a role model.
Deliver pastoral support to children.
Attend to children’s personal needs and assist in their social, health & hygiene development.
Undertake comprehensive observations of children as directed by the teacher to determine those in need of additional support.
Assist the Early Years teacher with the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans.
Support children with special needs as directed.
Provide feedback and advice to parents/carers to help with the development/
learning/behaviour/attendance of children.
Promoting inclusivity among the children.
SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS
Support children’s access to learning and play using appropriate strategies, resources etc.
Work with other staff in preparing, planning, evaluating and adjusting learning and play activities as appropriate
Monitor and evaluate children’s responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording.
Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports on children’s achievement and progress ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
Work with other staff in the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies following the EYFS behaviour policy.
Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child’s attendance, access and learning and supporting home to school and community links.
Hold meetings with parents of key worker group children to report on progress and development of children.
Maintain an enabling environment, contributing to displays when asked and ensuring that the environment is always engaging.
SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM
Implement agreed learning and play activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to the children’s responses/needs.
Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, equalities, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
Be aware of and support differences and ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
Attend and participate in regular planning meetings.
Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.
