Job Purpose:
The Applications Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development of conceptual fuel injection test solutions for our clients core product range and OE partner approved solutions from concept through to completion.
Key Accountabilities:
– Developing new product specifications (internal and external)
– Designing and executing experiments to prove new machine / control concepts.
– Provide lead engineer on R&D projects ensuring the product specification is being met.
– Writing project technical documentation (eg. Specifications, timing plans, acceptance test procedures, user manuals, applications guides)
Context:
Operating Environment: Our client are the designers, manufacturer & supplier of fuel injection equipment to test diesel injection systems for OE & aftermarket applications. They traditionally have operated in top end of the OE & aftermarket with its main competitor being BOSCH. With the introduction of new to range products. Our client will focus on expanding its market share by winning new customers in new markets in addition to maintaining it’s core business in the premium OE segment.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Essential requirements:
– Ability to write, update and develop technical specifications.
– Ability to reach technical drawings and an understanding of mechanical design principles
– Advanced user with oscilloscopes to analyze electrical drive and sensor feedback
– Experience win R&R testing techniques
– Ability to effectively communicate technical application requirements to other engineering functions.
– Basic CAD experience i.e. opening drawings, opening assemblies (ideally Solidworks)
– Knowledge of Diesel Common Rail and Gasoline Direct fuel injection systems and their working principles on engine
– 3 years + experience within an R&D proof of concept environment
– Previous knowledge & experience with hydraulic and electrical control systems, ideally pressure / flow control and quantity measurement
– Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel. Specifically Excel skills to manipulate technical data.
– Microsoft Project knowledge
Non-Essential but Desirable Requirements:
– Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical assemblies and electrical layouts.
– Design for manufacture, service and test.
– Vehicle control systems
The successful candidate will:
– Degree qualified (or equivalent)
– Understanding of Diesel Fuel Injection systems and internal combustion engines an advantage
– Be a team player, comfortable working in a small team and building strong professional relationships.
– Have the ability to organise and take responsibility for their own work.
– Have a proactive approach to work and be good at problem solving and suggesting new ideas.
– Have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and with customers.
– Be flexible and keen to assist in a variety of ways on a variety of projects.
– Be confident and have a “Can Do” attitude.
– A multi-tasker and a finisher
– Must be willing to "think outside the box" and willing to take calculated risks
