Senior Materials Engineer – Contract
Milton Keynes – Part Remote
Job Description: A Senior/Principal Materials engineer is required for major olefins, refinery and petrochemical projects located in both domestic and international markets. Candidates are required to possess a thorough working knowledge of materials engineering this includes materials for plant packages, all equipment types, piping and pipeline engineering.
Job scope:
– Prepare and check engineering procedures and standards.
– Prepare and check the basis of design, specifications, data sheets, requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and drawings.
– Provide technical recommendations on the selection of equipment to meet Project requirements.
– Preparing Material Selection Reports
– Preparing Material Selection Diagrams
– Check and review vendor proposals, documentation, and drawings.
– Participate in project, client and vendor meetings.
– Provide Input to Construction Subcontract and evaluate bids
– Be prepared to travel in the UK and overseas for meetings, equipment testing and site technical support to meet Project requirements
Typical background and experience required:
Candidate shall have extensive expertise materials selection and corrosion control in upstream oil and gas facilities. Candidate shall be familiar with materials selection for oil and gas production environments, including production manifolds, separation vessels, slug catchers, pig launchers, stabilization columns, dehydration packages, heat exchangers, pipelines, pumps and compressors.
Applicants must have strong inter-personnel skills. This individual must be able to anticipate problems, understand customer needs and provide proactive solutions in line with the organization’s objectives. They must also be able to evaluate highly complex ideas, determine innovative solutions, present options along with their advantages and disadvantages, be involved in decisions and final solutions. Good communication skills are essential, particularly within a project role where there are interfaces with the Client, other Contractors, Suppliers and company Project team.
Must be familiar with European, American, and International standards applicable to the petrochemical industry.
Nice to have:
Chartered Engineer Status
Experience gained within an Equipment Manufacturing or Operating Company.
Specific experience related to rotating equipment within major Ethylene Plants and Refineries.
Candidate should be familiar with static and packaged equipment. This shall include the following:
Slug catcher, separation vessels, desalter packages, dehydration packages, stabilizer column, pig launcher and common types of heat exchangers.
Candidates should have a working knowledge of all classes of rotating equipment, including Compressors, Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines and Pumps, and will also be able to demonstrate experience in coordinating equipment packages that involve a combination of rotating and static equipment.
Additional information:
Candidates must also have a working knowledge of recognized industry codes and standards along with exposure to welding and NDE fundamentals. Individuals shall be well-versed in writing technical specifications, preparing design calculations, studies, requisitions, technical bid evaluations and performing vendor document reviews. Software knowledge shall include Microsoft Office applications and corrosion rate calculation software, such as ECE or equivalent.
