Here at UK Biocentre, we are looking for a Laboratory Technician to take part in pivotal biomedical sampling services across a portfolio of medical research projects. As well as learning new skills across a variety of interesting laboratory processes, you will experience great fulfilment through doing important work towards improving the lives of children and adults with rare diseases and cancers.
You will be supported by our management team in their strong commitment to your career progression. Our Operations Manager started here as a Laboratory Technician. You too could progress within our expanding organisation up to our Laboratory Senior Management team. Or even diversify and progress within anyone of our other departments such as Scientific Support, Technical Support, Quality Assurance and Project Management.
What you will do as a Laboratory Technician:
* Ensure samples are stored correctly at the right temperature in the cold storage units.
* Employ a variety of techniques to process samples including sample preparation and reformatting, nucleic acid extraction, normalisation, PCR, and tissue preparation.
* Manually process samples as well as programming robots to conduct the processes.
* Read and understand results and troubleshooting failed results.
* Update the Laboratory Information System (LIMs).
* Keeping the laboratory clean and tidy.
* Maintain the equipment.
* Record any health and safety issues and following health and safety protocols.
* Take part in training to learn new skills and enhance your contribution as a great team player.
You will enjoy being able to plan, organise and control several different activities and following process.
Is this Laboratory Technician role right for me?
* Hold a minimum of one A level (or equivalent) in any science subject and have a keen interest in working within a laboratory environment with biomedical samples.
* Able to set high standards for yourself, meet deadlines and maintain high quality standards.
This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
In return, the Technician will receive a salary of £22,700 per annum plus 26 days holiday (plus bank holidays) increasing to 28 days after 2 years’ service and increases to 30 days after 4 years’ service, Pension – 18% employer and 8% employee contributions, life insurance, employee assistance programme with health assured, company sick pay scheme, cycle to work scheme, Perkbox online shopping discounts.
