The role of the Enterprise Cloud Architect – Data Analytics is to guide the global transformation of traditionally delivered data service capabilities to cloud based data service capabilities. This is a strategic role intended to enable the company to leverage advanced cloud-based technologies to disrupt current industry methodologies and increase the operational effectiveness of the organization. Furthermore, the cloud architect provides technology guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices, and is an evangelist for communicating and promoting cloud capabilities to the organization. The Cloud Architect will be a subject matter expert in multiple cloud-based technologies and capabilities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
– Provides direction, guidance, and definition of IT architecture to effectively support the corporate business strategy. A subject matter expert in cloud who champions Data Analytics cloud initiatives. Aligns the Data Analytics cloud architecture strategy with business goals. Defines, explains, and advocates the cloud strategy. Active member of a Cloud Centre of Excellence (COE) virtual team.
– Works on highly complex cloud-based Data Analytics strategic investments that require in-depth knowledge across multiple cloud capabilities. Reviews existing business processes and establishes metrics to improve business processes where cloud technologies can benefit.
– Leads and facilitates the creation of governing cloud principles to guide decision making. Manages exceptions to data analytics architectural standards at an enterprise level. Reviews and/or analyzes and develops cloud architectural requirements as needed for the organization. Provides input into the oversight and governance of the cloud managed service provider.
– Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to Data Architects, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Analysts, and other software development teams as needed.
– Leads virtual teams in developing cloud technology plans. Conducts research on emerging cloud technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility. Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
– Consults with project teams to fit data analytics projects to cloud architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture. Ensures the conceptual completeness of the technical solutions.
– Develops recommendations and budget proposals for cloud initiatives critical to business/mission success.
– May chair the EA review board and ensure that the solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models. Manages exceptions to architectural standards at an enterprise level.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
* Bachelor’s degree in a Technical or Business field as it relates to the specific Architecture discipline. (Extensive experience may substitute for a degree).
* A thorough understanding of Microsoft Azure capabilities and solutions, including Synapse, Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
* IT and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management, and/or infrastructure planning and operations.
* The ability to act as liaison conveying information needs of the business to IT and technology/capability constraints to the business
* Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations.
* A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
* Highly competent in cloud architecture disciplines
* Understanding of SaaS contract and SLA models
* Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS and PaaS services
* Strong understanding of Azure AD and Identity management
* Cross functional expertise in Cloud Server & Storage, Networking, Security, Compliance, Monitoring, performance & tuning, disaster recovery and containers
* Experience in establishing compliance programs for cloud security and infrastructure operations
* Exposure to common industry standard cloud-native/cloud friendly authentication mechanisms (OAuth, OpenID, etc.)
* Understanding of deployment orchestration, automation and security configuration management (Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc)
* Knowledge of Yaml and similar languages
* Experience in establishing processes for reporting and managing cloud costs and containment
* Experience in using a service provider to manage public cloud services
* Experience in migrating on-premise applications to the cloud of significant scale
* Familiarity with infrastructure as code and software development lifecycle.
* Strong competencies in multiple Enterprise Architecture disciplines, such as Business Architecture, Application Architecture, Data Architecture and Infrastructure Architecture.
* The ability to apply architectural principles to business solutions.
* Ability to work as part of our Data Analytics Product Line with primary responsibility of data services to our global practitioner community
* Capable of performing as or overseeing a project manager, delivering global architecture projects that have impact and may carry significant risk.
* The Cloud Architect will have a breadth of global scope across the entire business. The depth of responsibilities extends from interpreting the corporate business strategy, project strategy and approach to technical architecture. Expert knowledge in Cloud solutions an architecture.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Strong presentation and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
