My Client is recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant in the Water Sector
My Client are Water Specialists, working with scientists, healthcare and diagnostic professionals as the trusted name for purified water.
What will I be doing?
The company designs and builds small-scale water purification systems for applications such as molecular biology, pharmaceutical research, trace analysis, clinical assays and sterilisation. This role will be working within the R&D process team on new water purification technologies and products on the laboratory scale. The work will primarily involve supporting senior staff with the operation of laboratory-scale test rigs, featuring new technologies, prototypes and finished products. Performance/stability monitoring, sample collection, chemical/microbiological analytical test work and preparing test reports are primary activities.
Operation of test equipment associated with new products and processes Carry out pilot rig and finished product testwork and associated tasks.
Collaborating in setting design/objectives of testwork, with time-scales
Completion of practical work, including creation / operation of test rigs, performance monitoring and data logging/interpretation.
Accurate recording of experimental results, report writing and outcome presentation.
Innovate, identifying, learning about & sourcing, technologies and components to create successful new processes.
Running test programmes for new products/technologies.
Support
Acquire a detailed familiarity with the technologies used in water purification and with the company range of products. Provide support to other team members and departments.
Maintenance of the laboratory stocks and equipment
Analytical Testwork To participate in ensuring that an efficient analytical service is provided by the department
Learning about and maintaining a good working knowledge of appropriate analytical techniques.
Operation of analytical equipment (such as ICP-MS and HPLC) to support project work
Maintaining and developing Work Instructions for analytical methods and equipment.
Carrying out maintenance, monitoring and calibration of laboratory equipment.

Working in the R&D Department, information security and confidentiality are essential.
High standards are required with regard to practical work; tidiness, cleanliness and safety are of paramount importance
A willingness to learn chemistry, microbiology and chemical engineering in order to integrate well in our multidisciplinary team.
After an initial period of training on products, technologies and lab procedures, the candidate will be assigned ownership of some projects and related testwork.
Experience and Qualifications:
A degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or similar technical qualification
Strength in mathematics, to manipulate & analyse sets of numerical data is essential.
Good communication skills, both verbal & written, with the confidence to document and present test results and project outcomes.
Attention to detail and critical eye in order to maintain the high standards of work delivered by the department.
A natural problem solver, using your own initiative to find solutions, as part of a team.
Willingness and the ability to explore new ideas, with a desire to learn
Enthusiasm to develop themselves in order to enhance the contribution they can make to the department
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise, working to deadlines
Good practical skills and a hands on approach is essential.
Having a practical hobby which can be illustrated at interview will be advantageous.
