Senior Geo Environmental Engineer
Milton Keynes
My client is an independent multi-disciplinary engineering, environmental and project management consultancy. They provide essential support across a wide range of sectors at all stages in the built environment.
They have an urgent requirement for a Senior Geo Environmental Engineer to join them at their new offices in Milton Keynes.
Roles and Responsibilities
* The role requires some site work including mentoring and training of less experienced engineers and technicians on site and completing site work for larger complex investigations.
* Mentoring of less experienced members of the Environmental Engineering team.
* Undertake design work in accordance with British Standards, Eurocode 7, CIRIA, BRE, NHBC etc to successfully deliver projects for our clients.
* Implement internal QMS procedures and ensure all designs comply with the company’s internal checking protocols.
* Undertake coordination with other professionals and contractors as appropriate, and to organise your time to ensure timely delivery of projects.
* Work independently on smaller projects, or as part of a team on more significant schemes.
* Commercial delivery of projects ensuring timescales and budgets are met.
* Collaborative working with other company Consulting offices.
* Liaise with Clients and other members of the design team to ensure investigations and designs meet the Clients brief including attendance at design team meetings / site meetings as required.
* Actively engage in business development where appropriate.
* Input into fee proposals where necessary.
* When required assist with the project management of projects of all sizes including commercial delivery of projects, ensuring timescales and budgets are met.
Skills & knowledge requirements:
* Good knowledge of all relevant British Standards and Design Codes.
* Designs will be produced by hand calculation or using Design Software/Excel as appropriate to the nature and magnitude of the project and to underpin this you will be expected to have a sound grasp of Engineering Principles and/or a good understanding of Contaminated Land Risk Assessment (ideally skilled in both geotechnical and contaminated land).
* Excellent IT skills including a basic understanding of AutoCAD and a good understanding of Microsoft Office including Excel and Word. Have a sound understanding of software including SlopeW (or similar), Holebase etc. A good knowledge of Holebase software is required for production of logs and cross sections, and also training Engineers.
* Proficient in foundation design and recommendations, and contaminated land risk assessment. Proficient in foundation design and recommendations, earthworks, slope stability, and contaminated land risk assessment including remediation, DQRA etc. A bias towards geotechnical or contaminated land is likely, however a good knowledge of both disciplines is required.
* Good organisational, planning and time management skills in order to handle multiple projects. simultaneously.
* Attention to detail.
* The ability to work with others and within a team, and potentially lead a small team of engineers and technicians.
* Aptitude to work on your own initiative.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Full driving licence and use of a car.
* Good commercial awareness.
Qualifications
Preferred
* Completion of Degree in relevant Engineering subject.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience working in similar engineering consultancy.
* Working towards and close to achieving membership of relevant Professional Institution i.e. British Geological Society, ICE etc.
