Geo-Environmental Engineer
Milton Keynes
My client is an independent multi-disciplinary engineering, environmental and project management consultancy.
They provide essential support across a wide range of sectors.
Roles and Responsibilities
The role requires a combination of site and office-based work, predominantly based around the organisation and reporting of geotechnical and Geo-environmental investigations, but can include supervision of earthworks, remediation, validation of sites etc.
Fieldwork supervision of site investigations including clearance of services, site walkovers, soil and rock logging, sampling, foundation inspections, infiltration testing, gas and groundwater monitoring.
Undertake preparation of factual and interpretive geotechnical and contamination reporting (under guidance of a Senior Engineer).
In addition to site investigation tasks, you may be required to assist in undertaking earthworks supervision, remediation supervision, validation of plots, topographical surveys, check inspection covers, and drainage runs, and undertake visual inspections.
Undertake design work in accordance with British Standards, Eurocode 7, CIRIA, NHBC etc to successfully deliver projects for our clients.
You will be required to produce, and coordinate Site Investigations and reporting including health and safety documentation.
Work closely with other members of the team, in particular Graduate Engineers and technicians in the preparation of site investigations.
Undertake coordination with other professionals and contractors as appropriate, and to organise your time to ensure timely delivery of projects.
Collaborative working with other company offices. May be required to work out of other offices for short periods depending on team locations.
Input into fee proposals where necessary.
Liaise with Clients and other members of the design team to ensure designs meet the Client brief including attendance at design team meetings / site meetings as required.
Skills & knowledge requirements:
Proficient in logging to BS5930 and will be expected to train Graduate Engineers and Technicians on site and in the office as required.
Have a good understanding of the UK geology, hydrology and be able to interpret geological maps, published data and site data.
A good knowledge of site investigation methods and techniques.
Have some knowledge and understanding of technical design packages including SlopeW (or similar). Good knowledge of Holebase software for logs and cross sections. Have basic knowledge of CAD for producing site plans and cross sections.
Ability to follow instruction, be self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, work well within a team environment and willing to be flexible to work nationally or internationally if the occasion arises.
Excellent written and oral skills.
Good knowledge of Microsoft office including Excel which is used for calculations and presenting site data. The ability to carry out hand calculations to check spreadsheets as appropriate is required.
Work with Senior Engineers to ensure the investigations are carried out as required to meet planning conditions, clients expectations etc.
Good organisational, planning and time management skills. Good verbal and written communication skills
Full driving licence and the use of a car.
Commercial awareness.
Qualifications
Preferred
* Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Earth Sciences, or any other relevant subject within the field.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience working in similar engineering consultancy or for a site investigation contractor.
