Financial Controller
(This is a hybrid role of remote and office based)
About this role:
At Chiltern Railways (part of the Arriva Group) we are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join our team. Whist this is a senior management level role, working as part of a lean team we would like someone who is happy to be involved in the day to day operations of the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for internal and group reporting, budgeting, forecasting and investment appraisal. Ensuring processes and controls in place to protect the assets of the business and to ensure compliance with internal and external procedures and regulations, whilst providing support to the financial management of the business.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide commercial support to senior management and directors on key business decisions as well as commercial negotiations
* Responsible for accurate periodic financial and statutory reporting in accordance with Arriva/DB policies and UK GAAP/IFRS as appropriate and auditing compliance
* Ensure delivery of the financial reporting, forecasting and other deliverables of the relevant Department for transport contract
* Lead the department engagement in the committees across the business ensuring the finance outputs are available for each relevant committee and if required attendance at the committees by members of the team
* Lead the department output for the performance based fee element of the Dft contract
* Ensuring internal processes and systems are robust so that reporting and review deadlines are met and that the balance sheet position is fully reconciled at each period end
* Lead the Budget Planning, forecasting, investment appraisal and financial planning workstreams
* Create and implementing cost cutting/profitability increasing initiatives to aid the deliver of the PBF fee
* Manage liaison with External and Internal Auditors regarding audits
* Lead the direct reports to deliver the relevant outputs for the department
* Assisting Finance Director with various ad-hoc finance and commercial projects and deputise where required
What we would like from you:
* Qualified Accountant with circa 3 years post Qualification experience.
* Experience of group reporting ideally with IFRS exposure
* Experience of working to tight reporting schedules
* Experience of staff management.
* Excellent communication skills and with experience of working with executive managers.
* Experience of devising processes and controls
* Good presentational skills.
You will be a committed CCAB qualified accountant or the equivalent with exposure to group reporting and process improvement. It is essential that the successful post holder possesses strong interpersonal skills and proven experience in delivery and attention to detail. This is an opportunity to work in a changing environment, with the opportunity to make a step change in the effectiveness and the profile of the finance team. Transport experience is desirable, but not essential – demonstration of a willingness to understand the business is
