Coeliac UK currently has an exciting, challenging and varied opportunity for an Evidence and Policy Adviser to join our team based in High Wycombe with the possibility to regularly work from home by prior agreement with your line manager. You will join us on a permanent, full-time basis working 35hrs per week. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of Circa £28,000 per annum plus 36 days holiday a year including bank holidays.
The Evidence and Policy Adviser role:
As the Evidence and Policy Adviser, you will be developing the Coeliac UK agenda for health and food across the UK. Interpreting any related technical, legislative and research activities to inform charity policy and deliver strategic aims. Working closely with the Heads of Health and Food Policy but with responsibility for specific project areas.
Key responsibilities of the Evidence and Policy Adviser:
– Contribute to the development of the evidence base to inform charity policy and the charity’s business and strategic planning in conjunction with the Evidence and Policy team
– Critically review, appraise and translate the evidence base ensuring it is up-to-date, quality assured and transferable to all necessary areas of work
– Develop and review Coeliac UK standards and policy positions in relation to health and food information and legislation and ensuring compliance with external standards in conjunction with the Evidence and Policy team
– Manage the specific intelligence gathering, horizon scanning of the political and legal landscapes around health and food policy
– Manage designated projects and working in line with charity business and strategic aims and in conjunction with other members of the Evidence and Policy team
– Advise and liaise with Membership Services, the Communications team and other teams as necessary on the development and update of health and food information for members and other stakeholders organisation-wide
– Represent and promote the work of the charity amongst stakeholders from the health and food sectors
– Represent the charity by speaking at conferences, exhibitions, local groups; professional or patient focused
– Produce and contribute to articles for peer review and consumer press
– Maximise the fundraising potential of the charity by supporting the fundraising team at Coeliac UK with detailed evidence underpinning cases of need
– Have a continuing plan for personal development
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required for the Evidence and Policy Adviser:
– Understanding of the scientific evidence base and research, with an ability to critically review scientific literature
– Ability to lead and make decisions on developing and implementing standards and policy positions in relation to health and food information and standards
– Able to manage complex projects on time and to budget
– Understands stakeholder needs and identifies solutions
– Motivated, cooperative team player with practical and ‘can do’ attitude
– Excellent written, communication and presentational skills
– Confident proof reader
– Able to work to deadlines and prioritise tasks
– Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision
– Educated to degree standard
– Good knowledge of health and/or food policy or has gained equivalent transferable experience
– Numerate with necessary skills to produce, monitor, analyse and interpret large datasets
– Excellent IT skills and digitally savvy
– CRM and website content management experience
