Our client is a major global player in the Nuclear industry. Operating on a UK Nuclear licensed site specialising in safe, cost effective and reliable uranium enrichment services based in Capenhurst, Chester.
Purpose of the job
Our refreshed sustainability strategy includes a commitment to achieve net zero carbon in advance of 2040, being a proud signatory of the Climate Pledge. We are seeking a knowledgeable and committed individual to join the Communications, PR and Sustainability Team as Net Zero Programme Manager.
The role holder will develop and implement long-term strategies, policies and projects to implement the net zero roadmap. In particular, they will lead on energy efficiency across the Group and public carbon reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
· Cascade the requirements of the net zero strategy and roadmap across business functions to ensure the principles are embedded into Urenco policies, processes and management structures.
· Develop and enhance systems and processes for delivering best practice sustainability performance and use of utility/sustainability management systems for monitoring and/or reporting purpose.
· Work collaboratively to ensure net zero is appropriately funded and investments receive budget allocation, in partnership with workstream leads and Finance teams. Work closely with site teams to develop site action plans.
· Lead the energy use and efficiency workstream, working collaboratively with the R&D teams to understand opportunities for reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions, plus water. Chair the Energy Saving Group and coordinate practical opportunities to implement efficiencies and meet net zero targets.
· Work collaboratively with Procurement and Commercial teams to engage our supply chain in net zero principles and gather robust scope 3 data. Advise on net zero principles within the supplier qualification process.
· Collaborate with the Finance and Business Development teams to ensure carbon impacts of projects and investments are considered. Also support the preparation of robust investment cases around scope 1, 2 and water efficiency projects; express savings in terms of kWh, CO2 and ROI.
· Keep up to date with current and future climate change science, guidance and legislation, interpreting how it impacts the organisation. Provide subject matter expertise on carbon reduction and reporting, across all aspects of the business.
· Manage the provision of robust quantitative and qualitative data for corporate reporting e.g. UK SECR, CDP, TCFD, engaging with site data champions.
· Manage the development and implementation of a sustainability programme dashboard, in collaboration with the sustainability data champions, producing regular reporting tailored to specific stakeholder group needs.
· Support the Group Sustainability Manager on the development of our policies, strategy and the broader sustainability programme.
Engage with senior stakeholders to receive endorsement for investments, actions and resources required to achieve net zero.
Qualifications:
University degree, ideally in engineering or environmental related subject is desirable
IEMA qualification desirable
Specific knowhow and technical skills:
· A good knowledge of climate change science, policies, guidelines and targets.
· Understanding/experience of UK and international legislation and greenhouse gas reporting across all scopes, including GHG Protocol, SBTi, Net Zero standards and TCFD.
· Experience of providing carbon reduction advice (ideally for technical engineering projects), alongside developing, implementing and driving corporate carbon reduction strategies.
· Experience of energy and sustainability data analysis.
Ability to simplify complex concepts verbally and through succinct reports
