Senior Communications Manager

We are looking for someone who can passionately and articulately shine a light on the work we do to provide life-saving accommodation and life-giving support to people in crisis.

About Us
We have been operating to support homeless and vulnerable people in crisis for the last 10 years and were established as a charity in 2012. We currently have 11 people on our staff team, most of who are part-time, and are supported by committed volunteers.

We provide emergency overnight accommodation for rough sleepers during the coldest months of the year and year-round welfare support to help people rebuild their lives, including finding longer-term accommodation and pathways to employment. We also provide access to a range of specialist services and support groups.

We deliver our services thanks to an army of local volunteers who make it possible. We also work in partnership with the local authority, with local churches who provide their facilities as an overnight venue in winter, and partners in the sector to coordinate services and deliver the best outcomes for the individuals we help.

Increasingly, we are providing support for people who are newly or vulnerably housed, with people struggling to maintain personal stability and tenancies in the longer term. To this end we have recently acquired a new building which we will be converting into a day centre with services focused on these needs to help prevent people falling into homelessness.

About This Role
We are looking for a motivated individual to lead our Communications Team to manage effective internal and external communications for the charity in line with our objectives, with a particular focus on marketing, publicity and growing our online presence.

The role of the Senior Communications Manager will primarily involve:

Line managing a part-time Communications Assistant.
Strategic development of the charity’s external communications to a variety of audiences (e.g. through e-newsletters, social media channels, branded assets, media management, local relationships and the website) to increase awareness of our work and supporter engagement.
The management of content creation to support these communications and deliverables.
Information sharing to equip the staff team with insights and to support their work.

About You
We are looking for someone with leadership qualities, with the ability to delegate and motivate others. You will need to be able to take initiative and have an aptitude for listening and evaluating as much as for the creation of meaningful content and messaging. You will:

be a self-starter, able to work well remotely as part of a team
be a good listener, able to consult, liaise, ‘read between the lines’ and ‘join the dots’; have an aptitude for producing engaging content
be a confident communicator in interactions with all types of people; and
have compassion for the homeless and vulnerable

Salary: £14−16 per hour (£27,375−£31,285 FTE based on 37.5hr week)
Hours: Season hours: 18 hours per week September to April, 8 hours per week May to August
