Where will I be working?
You will be based at our Lane End site in High Wycombe. The role does include a small amount of international travel.
What will I be doing?
As Head of Engineering, you will be required to manage the day-to-day activities of the Engineering and Industrialisation team and to deliver sustainable profitable growth through the management and execution of development projects against delivery commitments.
You will be working with a team of Engineers who perform the design engineering of laboratory water treatment equipment. You will be involved in the engineering aspects of a range of development projects involving design, construction, and assembly, and testing.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with all our teams including Research and Development, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Marketing and more. The role also requires direct communication on technical issues with customers and suppliers and therefore confident communications skills are very important.
We seek a candidate who has the vision, ability, and energy to provide the necessary focus and drive on existing key projects, and to be a key input in the ongoing strategic product development roadmap.
Key Responsibilities will include.
– management of the engineering department's staffing, resources, and mentoring, and maintaining a best-in-class engineering department.
– provide technical guidance and direction, as well as hands-on resources and project management for all the development activities.
– play a leading engineering role within the department where they are tasked with the planning, management execution, and implementation of the new product designs as well as product maintenance of the company product portfolio in deep cooperation with Product Managers and Manufacturing teams.
– day-to-day project management, scope management, issue, and risk management, as well as regular status reporting.
– play a leading role in the recruitment activities within the engineering department, and play a mentor role to key engineering personnel, assisting in their duties upon request, and constantly promoting the growth of their professional skills.
– report the status of project developments, department performance, quality, and systems performance to the Director of Engineering and Industrialisation.
– work with cross-functional teams from across the business including but not limited to, quality, operations, technical support, research and development, product management, and key account managers.
– be involved in projects that require a senior technical representative in front of end-user’s clients that can inspire confidence, making it easy for them to build trust in their insight, directives, and judgment.
Do I have what it takes?
Must have’s….
* Strong mechanical engineering competence with a broad experience in manufacturing techniques, electrical engineering, fluidics, embedded software, and electronics would be ideal.
* Previous experience and a demonstrable track record of successfully managing individuals and teams within a product-driven environment.
* A degree level or equivalent in an Engineering discipline, ILM Level 6, or equivalent in management would be an advantage.
* Excellent communications skills, with the ability to lead, influence and build trusting relationships.
* A strong people manager with strong coaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
* Able to act quickly and decisively to change and prepared to take difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions.
* Conversant with technical principles, technologies, product requirements, and engineering products.
* An individual who can balance both innovation, creative problem solving, and challenging the status-quo with standardisation and adherence to policy and procedures.
* Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
* Experience working to regulatory standards (CE, UL)
* Working knowledge of Pro-E or similar
