Our client, is a public distance learning and Research University, and one of the biggest universities in the UK for undergraduate education.
They are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Engineer within the Space Research Team starting on 1st June until 1st December 2021 based in their Milton Keynes office, however working from m home initially. This role is full time, working 37 hours a week,
Paying between £14.30 – £15.63ph depending on experience.
The Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI) is a research centre within the School of Physical Sciences at the Open University. The CEI is a collaboration between the Open University and Teledyne e2v, a world-leading manufacturer of scientific and industrial image sensors.
The CEI is seeking to appoint a Mechanical Engineer to support the development of laboratory test systems (such as vacuum systems and cryogenic cooling systems) for space mission development, as well as supporting any related mechanical design work for the group where required, such as for synchrotron research and medical applications.
The research of the CEI involves the design, test and calibration of image sensors for space applications, namely the major ESA and NASA space missions, as well as working with ISRO and various synchrotron facilities. For these applications, the sensors are most often operated at cryogenic temperatures around -100°C and therefore are required to be operated under vacuum conditions for long periods. The camera systems required therefore require complex design features to enable adaptability while maintained cold and under vacuum.
Experience of using 3D modelling software packages (such as Solidworks or similar) is essential.
The role holder will also attend regular project meetings, deliver progress reports and interface with team members and external scientists and engineers.
If you are interested in the role please apply online, but if you would like more information, please email or call (phone number removed), we look forward to hearing from you
