Forget predictable swings and slides, this global organisation design and manufacture inventive and extraordinary playground and outdoor fitness equipment, often inspired by monsters, giants and adventure. Their UK company, which is the market leader, is looking for somebody to focus on managing the Inspection and Maintenance team as it grows. This has important elements of customer reporting and aftersales – You enjoy being out with the sales team meeting customers and developing long term relationships built on trust
THE ROLE
The company designs and installs outdoor playground and fitness equipment all over the UK. The industry standards recommend that equipment needs to be inspected on a regular cycle to ensure it works perfectly and is safe to use. The results are reported electronically, and where needed, repairs and upgrades recommended and quoted.
It’s your job to manage the field service team of 4, and growing, and the internal support team of 4, and where there’s no alternative, you’ll use subcontractors when you need extra resource. You’re planning and monitoring routing, productivity, efficiency, and customer reporting and satisfaction. You’re also monitoring aftersales and making sure they’re being fulfilled, and everything is on track. A good deal of time you’ll be out with customers and prospects when the salespeople need a technical head to check the details and ensure promises made can be kept. While all that’s going on, you’re keeping your eyes on your budgets and costs, as well as making sure your team are trained and ready for anything that’s likely to come their way. The Engineers mostly work alone, and you would ensure all necessary Health and Safety training and certification was in place.
The company has grown significantly in recent years, and the service element has become a key market differentiator, so you will be busy! Your team will grow in time and there’s always something to be done. You’re very mobile and out with your team and customers more than in the office. Time will pass in a flash.
THE CANDIDATE
You’re an experienced service manager of field-based engineers or technicians. You know how to help them plan their routes, stay efficient, and deliver a highly valued and visible service that reinforces the perception of consistent high-quality work and reporting.
You enjoy being out and about with colleagues and customers and also enjoy working with the office support team. You keep your promises, careful about the management of expectation and build long-term relationships. You’ve always been that way. When you’re working for the market leader, things like that count.
That’s easy to say, and hard to achieve, but you know that and work hard to encourage a team ethos where the goal is to get it right first time, every time.
You’re contemporary in your outlook, good with technology, manage your costs – and keep your wits about you so there are no surprises for the company or its customers – and if you really couldn’t see it coming, you remain calm and work your way through without any dramas.
GEOGRAPHY
This is a UK wide role working from the company headquarters in Milton Keynes, so a reasonable commute to HQ is preferable. You will need to travel widely, and there will be nights away, but with a little planning, it should be more than 2 or 3 nights a month.
SALARY
Annual basic salary will be up to £50k, along with a company car and other benefits you’d expect from a market leader.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
Martin Ellis at Recruitment South East will perform screening and initial interviews before candidates are selected for interview by the company
