Cobham Aerospace Connectivity are looking for a Systems Discipline Team Lead – Capability
This role is based in Marlow.

Our technology
Cobham Aerospace Connectivity design and manufacture active and passive avionics antennas and electronic control systems for military and civil communications, navigation and search and rescue applications. We pioneered frequency agile VHF tuneable antennas and continue to be a key supplier to major avionics companies. Our GPS anti-jam technology utilises state of the art DSP algorithms with an active antenna to eliminate both narrow-band and wide-band jamming signals. We have world leading technology in Ground Penetrating Radar and RF interference mitigation. Both military and civil users rely on our direction finding systems for search and rescue operations. We develop and manufacture high specification sector and multi-sector, directional, omni-directional, ultra-wideband (UWB) and MIMO antennas.
Role overview
The systems discipline team lead has three main aspects, focused around capability, execution and people:
• Drive improvement in our systems capability across the discipline, by focusing on increasing our overall competency levels, alignment with industry best practice and supporting recruitment to secure future high talent.
• Support project execution, by introducing consistent approaches across all projects, providing advice, guidance and upskilling the team where appropriate.
• Line management duties for a team of engineers.
A discipline team lead will support the head of discipline with the general operating rhythm of the function, and will work in close partnership with other discipline team leads who focus on key capability areas. They will be responsible for resource planning, regular people reviews, support estimation of new business opportunities and ensuring that process is followed through effective governance.
As a Systems Discipline Team Lead – Capability your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
* A recognised technology based degree, supported by sufficient experience to prove application of systems engineering across the lifecycle.
* A proven track record in capability growth of systems engineering within a safety critical environment.
* Able to mentor and coach engineers, to increase knowledge of systems engineering best practice.
* Proven experience in Systems Engineering within a safety critical industry, ideally with experience of ARP4754A.
* Experience working in an environment where the team are located in different sites.
* Ideally with line management / performance management experience, or at least demonstration of support to engineers focused on their individual growth.
As a Systems Discipline Team Lead – Capability your key responsibilities will include:
* Provide technical leadership for the systems discipline.
* Focus on driving consistency across all projects.
* Increase our systems engineering capability by driving towards a systems thinking mind-set, both within the discipline and across engineering.
* Regularly assess the competency level of the discipline, determining areas for growth through training and recruitment of required skillsets, aligning with the needs of the future strategic roadmap for our key technology areas.
* Develop and mature our systems processes and guidance material to align with industry best practice.
* Support professional growth of the discipline and alignment with professional bodies.
* Network with selected universities, both as a means to expand our research in our key technology areas and to attract future high performing individuals.
* Responsible for a team of engineers in a line management capacity, driving development through active performance management.
* Flowing down engineering objectives to the team, reviewing progress through regular one-2-ones.
* Support the supply and demand load across various product groups, managing resource demands through individual growth, recruitment, training and succession planning.
* Gather and review engineering inputs for the generation of estimates for bid opportunities, including signoff.
* Ensure the team are applying strict adherence to process compliance, regulation and other business policies, achieving the required level of quality.
* Providing expert advice and guidance across the discipline, driving systems best practice.
* Identifying opportunities for productivity and cost improvements.
* Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the company.
* Ensure effective knowledge management approaches are embedded.
* Ensure effective lessons learned approaches are utilised, to capture the information and ensure our processes are appropriately updated as a result on a continuous basis.
* Generate future business cases to support the capability growth/sustainment of the discipline.
