A quick look at the role
Reporting to the Head of BI, the BI Developer is responsible for designing and maintaining the data warehouse schemas, ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) process and updating, developing and improving the BI reporting systems, system architecture and integrations. This supports the business to access existing and new data items as required and enables new reporting requirements to be fulfilled as effectively as possible. The role is fundamental in helping the business develop and transform to use new systems, capabilities and features of the Microsoft cloud stack.

Maintain, design and develop the data warehouse schema and develop ETL solutions to satisfy reporting and system integration needs.
Implement, develop and maintain unstructured cloud storage technologies such as data lakes, making the data available for reporting as needed.
Monitor ETL status, speed and reliability to ensure continued integrity and availability of data warehouse(s) over time for reporting business critical data.
Develop, document and maintain Dataflows and Analysis Services models to ensure high performance, availability, security, efficiency and value for flexible reporting solutions. Manage other BI systems and schemas as appropriate (e.g. MicroStrategy).
Provide guidance and support to the rest of the BI team to optimise solution design, performance and implementation, ensuring information is structured and delivered to industry best practice and business requirements.
Troubleshoot BI Environment and software problems to maintain availability of, access to, and performance of business-critical data and BI systems, including extending, upgrading and maintaining BI software as required.
Collaborate with other IT groups, departments and external suppliers regarding supply of source data, data warehouse performance, growth and future database upgrades to ensure effective communication and manage dependencies.
Support, advise and lead on aspects of new cloud-based data warehouse design and implementation.Requirements
MUST be a UK resident
Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Appropriate professional qualifications in Business Intelligence arena
Data warehousing techniques
Proven experience in designing, developing and maintenance/monitoring of ETL functions
Relational and Dimensional modelling optimised for reporting
Read/write T-SQL; SSIS; SSAS; SSRS; DAX
Analytical and able to quickly assess issues and recommend and/or implement solutions;
Able to work independently, prioritise and manage workloads under time pressures
Identifies dependencies across the enterprise landscape, escalating and acting proactively to minimise impacts
Self-motivated and proactive with a 'can do' attitude
Skilled at meeting the day-to-day reporting needs of the business whilst also delivering the longer term BI/DW strategyBenefits
