About the role
We are looking for a graduate engineer who will support the continued development of Optical Receiver/Transmitter products for Space and Defence applications, including both customer funded and internal development projects as part of the growing Technology Hub. The role will encompass all activities from development of early concepts, through detailed design, to production readiness. The successful candidate will work as part of a small development team, however will be expected to work with all departments across the business, and across sites.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Support design and development of new optical transceiver and communication products working as part of a specialist design team
Understanding of customer requirements, relating to optical component performance
Ability to analyse and design for optical performance, including use of optical and electrical simulation tools e.g. optimisation of optical coupling, electrical layout simulation for high frequency data communication.
Understanding of Opto-electronic component performance and limitation and ability to select the most appropriate solution for our applications.
Practical application of skills including prototype assembly and test techniques as well as fault finding and optical alignment
Visibility of entire project lifecycle including support to qualification and verification activities
Support to internal and external design reviews.
Development of new technology, processes and capabilities as part of the Optical product roadmap
About you
You will ideally have a degree in Bachelor's or Masters degree in a relevant Science or Engineering subject. You will have knowledge of appropriate simulation and modelling tools and techniques and knowledge of test and verification equipment and techniques. You will also be keen to develop your technical competence and be a highly motivated self-starter.
You will have a good level of IT literacy and have an awareness of production and assembly processes. The successful candidate will have excellent planning and organisational skills. You will also have good written skills and the ability to communicate cohesively with all levels within the organisation and externally. You will enjoy working as part of a team and have an enthusiastic approach to work
