Project Engineer
Quantum are currently exclusively representing a leading, global supplier of automated materials handling systems across multiple industry sectors including intralogistics, airports and automotive who are now seeking a senior and experienced Project Engineer to join them.
Based at the Milton Keynes office, the position is within a small multi-skilled engineering team specialising in and working on Intralogistics projects e.g. unit load pallet and tote systems, from initial enquiry through to implementation and handover; in other words from “cradle to grave”.
Whilst it is likely there will be involvement in the wide range of activities this implies, the main focus of the role is on the implementation of projects following award of the order and in particular on the detailed engineering and associated activities to enable the installation to take place in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
* Clarification and confirmation of the concept. This requires an ability to understand material flow diagrams and rates to ensure the system delivers the required functionality at the specified rates.
* Detail design of the practical solution i.e. the mechanical layout taking account of (and requiring knowledge of) the electrical, control and safety requirement.
* Procurement of equipment and sub-systems
* Support for the Project Manager through the installation and commissioning phase (including the preparation of documentation of the “as built” system.
The role is strongly technical in content and is likely to suit a person with an engineering degree working in the Logistics and allied Industries or with substantial experience.
Key Skills, Competences and Knowledge:
* Ability to understand analysed data typically presented in tabular or flow diagram form
* Good MS Office, Project and AutoCad skills (although most drawing work will be undertaken by a specialist CAD designer).
* Ability to understand large multi-dimensional machines (the ability to visualise is highly beneficial) taking account of the mechanical, electrical control and safety factors that influence the design. Good knowledge of safety concepts is essential.
* Ability to prepare design risk assessments.
* Knowledge of the general industrial market, particularly with regard to 3rd party machines and equipment that are typically purchased for an integrated material handling systems.
* Writing/preparation of specifications for 3rd party procurement.
* Negotiation with suppliers
* Knowledge of design standards and Machinery Directive etc. (Knowledge of contracts is also useful e.g. MF1)
* Willingness to travel domestically and very occasionally internationally with overnight stays where required.
* Flexibility of working pattern that varies according to project demands.
* Understanding of project implementation, site safety and working practices etc. with most projects being subject to CDM regulations
