We are looking for Teaching Assistant to join the team at a supportive and growing Alternative Provision for secondary aged children in High Wycombe. The provision needs an experienced teaching assistant to help the teacher to; prepare students for examinations, link pupils' knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further, and challenge and inspire students to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.
About the School:
The provision is a fast paced, flexible thinking company that relies on empathy, commitment and compassion to ensure their students receive the best education they can by taking considered steps to break down long standing barriers to education. The provision specialises in teaching students whom may present challenging behaviours or are not suited to mainstream education for various reasons, including poor mental health. They offer an alternative curriculum to meet the needs of each student on an individual bases, each provision holds a maximum of 35 students.
About the Role:
The successful teaching assistant will build relationships fast with students to support them to develop their personal and social skills whilst empowering them to fulfil their potential through a series of bespoke interventions.
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for an exemplary Teaching Assistant who is approachable, committed, empathetic, and enthusiastic. You MUST have experience working as a Teaching Assistant in an SEN or alternative setting. You will need excellent communication skills with a variety of audiences and the ability to build and maintain strong, professional relationships. You must lead by example and have high expectations of self and others.
Key Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant
Teach allocated students by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through:
* Assisting students to complete tasks which challenge students and ensure high levels of interest;
* Support students in the classroom who are AEN/SEND, gifted and talented, LAC or who have other particular individual needs;
* Assist teachers in lessons to maintain pace, motivation and challenge;
* Maintaining discipline in accordance with the school's procedures and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework;
* Assist the teacher to use a variety of teaching methods to:
(i) match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary
(ii) use effective questioning, listen carefully to students, give attention to errors and misconceptions
(iii) help to prepare appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, ICT and other sources;
* Helping students to acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught;
* Liaise with the Head of School to ensure the implementation of school policy and best practice.
