My client are a leading developer delivering major projects throughout the UK. They operate in the new build student accommodation, highrise residential apartments and new build housing sectors. They are a multi-million pound turnover group and a leader in their sectors of the construction industry.
They now have a prestigious new build student accommodation scheme in Milton Keynes; a £50m new build, RC Frame, 600 bed scheme, consisting student apartments above a mix of retail and commercial units, over 5 blocks. Current phases of this project would see a suitable candidate through into late 2022 with future phases highly likely also.
*Please note – following completion of this scheme, candidates need to be open to travel moving forward.*
The scheme is being overseen by a strong team of long-standing operational and commercial staff including a Senior Project Manager, Senior Site Manager, Site Managers and Engineer.
They now require an Assistant Site Manager to work within this team to shadow a Site Manager and assist the successful delivery of this prestigious scheme.
Role Purpose and Summary
To assist in the management of works on site, managing quality, safety and pace to ensure that projects and work is completed on time to the required standard.
To hold responsibility for tasks within the development / project as delegated by the Site Manager or Project Manager.
The Assistant Site Manager role provides an opportunity to learn, grow and develop whilst delivering and carrying out valuable and necessary tasks and activities in an active, live project. You will have a minimum of 2 years' experience operating at such level and on such schemes.
Core Objectives – specific expectations of the Assistant Site Manager role;
Assist the Site Manager with tasks and activities as directed.
Manage and take responsibility for tasks and activities in own area of control as agreed.
Prepare for, attend, observe and contribute to site meetings, when required, with other people involved in the project, including (but not limited to) Directors, Contract / Project Managers / Quantity Surveyors / Engineers / Subcontractors / Architects / Designers / Planners.
Measure all materials and quantities required for site by analysing drawings and carrying out take-offs.
Place orders for quantities required taking into consideration dimensions, location, materials and any other factor that influences or impacts the requirement.
Undertake snagging (fault-finding) across the site as allocated or instructed.
Carry out weekly plant inspection checks and ensure all required actions are completed accordingly.
Produce and / or contribute to reports and progress updates, presenting information in the correct format and in a timely manner.
Supervise and manage site operatives and subcontractors in their daily work, highlighting risks, problems and issues and directing, advising and supporting accordingly.
Delegate tasks to subcontractors appropriately and follow-up to ensure tasks are completed correctly.
Contribute to and assist with the production of the Site Diary in line with reporting requirements.
Contribute to and assist with health and safety checks in line with requirements set out by legislation, common best practice, guidance and company policies.
Highlight and report on health and safety risks and issues, and where possible, identify mitigating actions or escalate the matter correctly.
Monitor progress on site and assist in the production of progress reports, to illustrate an accurate view of activities on site.
Maintain a longer-term view of progress, looking ahead to identify potential future issues, bottlenecks, obstacles or other factors that may delay or negatively impact progress.
Escalate, make recommendations and take actions to prevent those delays or minimise delays and disruptions.
Carry out inductions and training as required.
Live the brand – Present a professional, conscientious and customer-focussed image of the group in through tangible, measurable actions; timely communications; collaborative interactions; and productive engagements with customers, clients, external stakeholders, partners and suppliers.
Promote the brand – Utilise or contribute to the use of innovative, cost-effective and contemporary methods to present, promote, build and market the group brand. This includes digital communications, printed materials, signage and other media.
Follow reasonable management instructions as required.
Knowledge, skills and experience required:
NVQ Level 3, 'A' Level, HNC, or equivalent qualifications or equivalent experience – desirable
Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word & Excel – essential
SMSTS/SSSTS certification – desirable
First Aid certificate – desirable
Scaffolding certificate – desirable
CSCS Card – essential
Good communication skills – essential
Remuneration & benefits package;
This role attracts a competitive and negotiable basic salary of between £30,000 & £35,000 (dependent upon experience) and in addition a full benefits package including company car or allowance, medicash scheme, excellent pension scheme, 25 days of annual leave + bank holidays, company bonus
