Quantity Surveyor – Milton Keynes – Rail
J. Murphy & Sons is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to work as part of a Main Contractor's project team working on series of contracts on the East West Rail Alliance Project. The candidate will be working as part of the Main Contractor's Transportation Business Unit. The project is due to complete in March 2024.
The Role
* Pricing and administration of change management under the Main Contract and Subcontracts.
* Assist in management of subcontract payment notices in accordance with statutory and company requirements.
* Assistance in preparation of periodic cost/value reconciliation reports.
* Administration and use of the Contractors costing system.
* Client facing role.
* Identifying risks and opportunities in the administration of commercial processes upstream and downstream.
* Sharing knowledge and learning with Assistant QS's on project.
* Reporting into the Project Commercial Manager and assisting in any other tasks as required by the Commercial Manager.
* Assist in preparation of Monthly Main Contract Application for Payment to Client.
* Assist in preparation of 'Bottom Up Forecast' where required (usually on a 3-6monthly basis).
* Assist in monitoring of planned vs actual cost across disciplines (Labour, Plant, Material, and Subcontract).
* Timely issue of contractual notices under the project.
* Timely issue of quotations and subsequent agreement of final accounts.
* Please note this list is not exhaustive and other tasks may be required.
* Experience in Procurement and Tendering required.
* Experience in contract law desirable.
Your Profile
* Degree in Quantity Surveying (Required)
* RICS/ICES Chartered Member (Desirable)
* Other related qualifications desirable i.e. MSc in Construction Law, Cost control courses.
* Proactive positive attitude whom works well under direction and their own initiative.
* Ability to meet deadlines where required.
* Ability to use own initiative where necessary knowing where to ask if there are circumstances that require input from Senior Management.
* Knowledge and basic understanding of good commercial working principles.
* 3-5years' experience working across civils or infrastructure projects i.e. desirable projects: Crossrail, Thames Tideway, Tunnelling, Railway, etc.
* NEC 3 2013 experience would be beneficial. An understanding of the type of commercial practices under these forms of contract is be required.
* Ability to work in a fast moving commercial environment.
* Ability to measure value adding in planned vs actual estimating and cost.
* Understanding of commercial gateway process around increasing financial limits and relevant instructions to subcontractors
