Could you bring compassion, empathy and sensitivity to support young people in care? This is an exciting opportunity to join a close knit team in a children’s home in South Buckinghamshire as a Residential Support Worker.
Role and responsibilities
As part of a team, you will be providing therapeutic care to children and young people in a home environment to promote their physical and emotional well-being. This will involve:
* Encouraging self-respect and respect for others
* Provide social and emotional support to raise the children’s esteem, enabling them to develop positive relationships
* Being involved in meal times i.e. menu planning, cooking and eating together
* Keeping the house clean and tidy and making sure the children do the same with their rooms
* Organising and taking part in activities with the children
* Motivating efforts to help the young people attain their goals and become independent young adults
* Writing daily reports and liaising with other professionals such as Social Workers, Therapists and Clinicians
Due to the complex and traumatised backgrounds of these children, you will need to be resilient and be able to deal with associated challenging behaviours. You will be patient in your approach to see each child's potential and recovery.
Successful applicants will have a natural, positive attitude and have a passion to consistently strive in turning around the lives of vulnerable young people.
Candidate requirements
* Previous experience of working with children/young people within a residential home environment or have transferable skills from a similar environment for example youth work or behavioural support.
* Able to commit to working long day shifts which include weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis and an average of 2 sleep ins per week
* Hold a driving licence.
* A Diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare is desirable, if not held the organisation will pay for and support you to attain this qualification
