Location: Normal office locations in Milton Keynes and/or Euston (based on workstream) – Due to COVID-19 initially the successful candidate will work from home

Job Spec Summary

Works with operational and project teams to provide detailed designs, technical leadership and expert knowledge in Data solutions. The role is responsible for producing high level and low-level designs, and providing guidance and support for transition, transformation and delivery on a variety of initiatives such as Data Warehouses, Advanced Analytics solutions and Data Migrations. The Data Architect also applies functional knowledge and technical expertise to design solutions that support customer needs.

Key Objectives

To be responsible and accountable for the design of an integrated data solution across all streams of a project or small programme.
Support Programme Architecture team to define, translate, maintain and assure the enterprise/project-level data architecture.
To understand the technical problems, challenges and complexities that exist within each stream or area of a programme and be able to manage and/or liaise with other technical stream lead to arrive at an integrated technology solution that meets the business requirements.
Promote co-operation, and where necessary, coach and facilitate co-ordination of all technical streams leaders of a programme to achieve the successful delivery of an integrated technology solution.
Identifies, understands and quantifies technical risk and advises on strategies to mitigate that risk.
Ensures that all the agreed business requirements to be satisfied by the project are implemented in the overall solution, are traceable and are compatible with the project's technical architecture.
Support the Solutions Architect to develop and enhance standards, policies/guidelines whilst driving the adoption of standards.
Perform audits, peer reviews and due diligence as required.
Leverage and influence change programmes to develop/enhance the standards, policies/guidelines whilst driving the adoption of standards.
Creation or modification of data models using different data model standards based on the need (3NF, Dimensional, etc.).
Essential Experience/Skills:

Proficiency in Agile and Waterfall delivery
Thorough and up to date understanding of data architecture approaches, tools and techniques.
Exceptional analytical skills with keen attention to detail
Deep technical expertise in Data Architecture definition.
Deep technical expertise in Data & Analytics projects gained from extensive hands-on experience.
Reviewing and ensuring quality and consistency of deliverables according to the defined Data Architecture.Desired Experience/Skills:

ITIL Manager or ITIL V3 Expert and ISO/IEC 20000 consultant qualifications are desirable
Experience within the Utilities and/or Rail sector
Experienced in EA Sparx and Jira
Experience in working with EAM systems and integration
Ability to rapidly acquire and simulate subject matter expertise of network rail asset management operations.
Experience in Data & Analytics Projects working ideally as a data architect, reviewing and creating design documents as a subject matter expert for data solutions.
Data architecture design and implementation expertise within large-scale Transformations and Migrations Projects.
Technical risk identification and management.
Analytical thinking with very good capacity to dig into data, understand and give suggestions for solving data problems.
Strong knowledge and demonstrable experience in BI Data Modelling, ETL Tools and BI Reporting Tools.
Any experience in Advanced Analytics projects, involving machine learning, IoT, big data or cloud technologies, would be valuable.
