GMP Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of our client in Milton Keynes who are a hugely successful, national component distributor within the automation industry. They are currently recruiting for a Buyer to join their ever growing organisation.
To be considered for this role you must demonstrate purchasing experience with a manufacturing/ engineering company as well as a technical background, an understanding of manufacturing processes and be able to read engineer drawings.
It is preferred you are CIPS qualified.
As a Buyer, you will assist the Procurement Manager in the management of the companies Supplier Base, building long-term relationships with high quality suppliers, ensuring they comply with the Company’s approval standards and the procurement function is operating efficiently and effectively.
Buyer main duties:
* You will establish and maintain purchasing policies and procedures that align with the corporate strategies of the Company and ensure these are complied with
* Negotiate the best price, delivery and service for purchased requirements
* You will raise Purchase Orders ensuring the authority levels are adhered to
* Take responsibility for day-to-day management of contracts as specified by the Procurement Manager and initiate purchasing projects for cost reduction as required
* Accounts Payable / Cost allocation by Cost Centres of certain Suppliers/ expenditure and support Accounts Payable as required.
* Continuously strive to initiate improvements in the purchasing process and working practices
* Communicating with all departments ensuring issues are acted upon efficiently and concluded upon satisfactorily
Buyer desired skills and experience:
* Experience as a Buying/Procurement within an engineering discipline
* Technical background including the ability to read drawings
* Excellent numerical skills: must be able to understand and advise on product costings
* Experience with MRP Systems
* Has commercial acumen and an understanding of business issues
* Must have excellent decision-making skills and the ability to deal with difficult situations head on
* A high level of IT skills, proficient in Microsoft office to include Microsoft Excel
* Be able to prioritise, plan and organise workloads whilst in a busy environment
The Buyer position can offer a basic salary up to £35,000 pending experience, plus fantastic fringe benefits including health insurance, pension contribution, gym membership and retail discounts to name a few.
