What is the purpose of this role?
Every year, the company carries out over 500,000 tests on samples of water that we routinely collect from our treatment works, reservoirs and randomly selected customer properties, to ensure your drinking water is of the highest quality. The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) monitors and enforces water quality regulations on behalf of the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). Their job is to assess the wholesomeness of drinking water and carry out audits of all water suppliers to examine all aspects of water quality, treatment, monitoring and analysis. The quality of our drinking water is determined by standards set out in the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 (and associated amendments).
What makes this role unique?
This is a unique role within the company allowing you to have complete control over your day to day work. You will be visiting customers directly at their homes and taking water samples ensuring the standard of drinking water the company provides is always to the best standards possible. You really will be working on the front line and be the face of the organisation.
What will this role involve?
Collecting samples from works, reservoirs and customer addresses; this will involve some cold calling, so a high level of confidence and strong customer service skill is an absolute necessity.
You will be in charge of managing the maintenance of your sampling records and sampling equipment to UKAS and DWI standards.
Planning your workload and deliver monitoring program, liaising with the Technical Scheduling team, CSWQ group and Process Team for technical data and Regulatory and Performance team for all reactive work, all in line with Company Protocols.
You will also have an excellent attention to detail, as you will have to keep records of all samples taken on a daily basis.
Other duties will include investigating possible supply issues, whilst effectively planning routes and collection programs.
Arranging appointments with customers and sample customer complaints and taking part in events as part of an out of hour's rosta.
What skills are we looking for?
You are a key person, working in a busy team. Excellent customer service skills are needed as you will be visiting customer homes on behalf of the company. You will need to be informative and organised. Ideally, you will have knowledge of the water industry and processes relevant to this area of work. You must be happy to learn about our Health and Safety legislation, if you don't already have a working knowledge of this. You will have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills as well as being computer literate. You must be comfortable driving a large size commercial van and be confident driving in busy environments, such as city centres or enclosed estates.
A clean driving license is essential, journey planning and route-finding demonstrating efficiency as well as good driving knowledge is necessary.
This role is based in Marlow with regular travel across Slough, Wycombe, Maidenhead and Aylesbury.
This role is a 6 month/on-going temporary position. The hours of work are Monday – Friday from 07.30 to 15.36. The hourly rate for the position is £10.56.
After successful completion of training, you will be expected to work a pattern, which includes working weekends and standby during the week. The normal requirement is to work 1 weekend in every 5 and take rest days in the week.
